So many options its become confusing, hoping a few that have been there before me can bring some clarity.

The car is a 65GTO https://www.pro-touring.com/threads/107809-65-GTO-new-project-not-sure-if-it-fits-here?highlight=

I'm building a somewhat restrained street car with a Trans Am feel. Sticking with 15" wheels, so no giant brake kits. Its a 4 speed car with an auto gear M22W and a 4555 thats currently around 500HP, because I'm friends with Dave at SD Performance I'm sure that number will eventually creep up to 600 or more. Main use for the car will be street driven on a daily basis, road trips, paved rally's and I'm sure the odd track day. We have another car for serious track use, but I want the car to be strong enough to survive being driven hard.

Budget limitations are somewhat flexible, but my preference would be to keep it under $3K

I like the Ford 9" because I could run two different gear sets depending on what I'm doing with the car, other than that I am not really bias one way or the other. I do like the idea of a floater, but perhaps thats overkill for what we are doing here.

Thanks for any help and advice, hoping to get this stage done and onto the next.

Cheers!

With my 1965 Buick Skylark I went with a 1971 Buick 8.5" rear. I had it built with 30 spline axles and Eaton posi. I am right around 500rwhp with my LS3 based 427.

If you can find an early 12 bolt it would be an easy swap. That's what I did for my 65 Chevelle behind a 600 hp big block.

Has anybody done a 9" swap, or even an 8.8" ford to an A body? Finding the early 12 bolts, or the 8.5 10 bolts can be pretty tough in my neck of the woods.

Check out the Moser 9".

They can be ordered for any number of applications. Add brakes and center section and you are ready to roll.

Scandc.com for 12bolt or 9inch

probably the most.beneficial axle mod to make it live is welded tubes
that's got plenty of 71 72 buick/olds 8.5 into the 10s with kist refreshed bearings and stock 28spline shafts
nit at that.point.you may as well spring for 30 spline mosers shafts

If you dont already have a 12 bolt, just call Moser. The prices for an original axle are high considering you'll likely have to go through it anyway.

In the same boat my 69 GS400. Bought a 12 bolt to replace the 10 bolt and go through it. Used 12 bolts are getting sky high prices. After pricing out the parts and having it rebuilt and cleaned up I wasn't that far away from a Strange S-60. Bolts right up to the A-body and they will delete the spring mounts since I've converted to coil overs. Not to mention everything is welded nice and brand new too. Just shopping for the best price now. The Race Expo is here near Chicago next week. Gonna see if I can squeeze a good price out of them at the show. Also Strange is located about 25 miles from me and that's a plus.

I'm currently looking at a Ford 9" from Quick Performance https://www.quickperformance.com/9-Ford-Complete-Rearend-GM-A-Body-64-67_p_20385.html

Has anybody had experience with these guys?

Im well aware of the cost of used 12 bolts, just doesn't make sense when you consider what you can get new. I like the S60, but its hard to argue with the versatility of the 9" and the price point with QP makes it seem like the best choice.

I haven't personally bought from them but have read good things. I think the 9" is a no brainer. Order it, bolt it in, and go punish it. You just need to know what wheels, brakes and ratio you want.

We will need pix of the install.
