I've been looking at how to control my power windows, electric door locks, and power mirrors. The after-market kits tend to look pretty clunky. However, some modern cars, like the G8, have a nice-looking and compact module in the center console that has switches to control windows, mirrors and locks. There's a separate power window switch module that appears to interface between the center console switches and the electric motors in the doors, at least for the front windows. Has anyone tried to install this type of arrangement in their classic car? Perhaps auto up/down would even be possible? Let me know if you have Amy helpful info.

Most cars now use a BCM (body control module) as sort of a mini power distribution unit. I build my own stand alone harnesses for auto up and down using stock window switches but to use a production type switch as you pictured, it gets complicated but could be done. You would need to determine which contacts in your multi function unit are for the windows and then if they are normally grounded or open @ rest, then an express down/up harness can be made to suit but as for the rest of it-a BCM breakdown may be in order.

Ive been looking into this as well, I thought a simple Silverado window switch would work pretty good integrated into a center console im going to fabricate. I wont have any fancy power mirrors but the auto up/down feature would be a pretty amazing feature to integrate.

You can add express down and/or up to your stock switches anyway-I build replacement g-body and Chevy truck window/lock harnesses and I incorporate both GM and Ford express modules into them so it can be done using your stock switches.

Alot of the newer switch panels like that are multiplex, so you would need to have something "read" the multiplex wire. I had a 2015 Mercedes S550 door panel off the other day and took a look at the window/mirror switch. There were 3 (three!) wires that controlled all 4 windows (auto up/down and manual control), window lock, left and right mirrors and illumination. All done through 3 wires! Unfortunately for us, it seems like most auto manufacturers are going this route. You will have to find something from the "analog" age to easily adapt to our cars.

Here's what I've come up with for express down-this kit works with the factory style switch and motors in early GM vehicles where the window motor is grounded to the door shell. I have other kits which allow for express up AND down using a newer conversion kit like Electri-Life too. The express feature I pre-set @ 8 seconds but depending on the DIP switch settings you can have up to 900 seconds of express delay! I use the same solid state modules for my headlights also.

Here's a harness I finished tonight-it is designed for a 69 Camaro with a custom 4-button console mounted window switch (GM style circa 1978-up) and 2 GM single window switches in the rear for the 1/4 windows and this setup allows for all 4 windows to have express down AND up. The window conversion kit is Electri-Life but their harness they include leaves a LOT to be desired so I built this for a customer who wanted express options.
So as you can see, you don't have to have exotic switches to have late model conveniences a the OEM GM switches will work with certain combinations.

I wish someone had elecitric window kits for 73-76 Plymouth Duster. I'd be all over your express up/down kit.

If this is a modern wormgear style with a switch integrated ground, then express down/up is an option.
