I can get a good deal on some hotchkis springs for my 69 pontiac custom S with a 400 the only problem is that the front springs are 1916f springs which are for big block cars. Hotchkis recommends small block springs rated at 512 lb/in. for the 400. I was wondering if I can get away with cutting a coil so I don't get that nose high look. Also concerned about the spring rates changing and being too stiff if I cut a coil the 1916f springs are 580 lb/in. Ideas and opinions are appreciated.

Cutting the coils is not the preferred method for lowing a car. I would suggest you buy the correct springs for your application.
