Hey everyone,

I'm thinking about converting my '69 to an RS (no emblems...). Does anyone out there sell a kit? What is involved in the swap?

Thanks for the answers,
Max

Ricks First Gen sells a kit (part #RHS-69) for $799. That is just for all of the headlight stuff. The grill kit (#GRK-14) is another $310. Hope this helps.

Classic Industries also sells the grille/ headlight conversion kit as a complete kit p/n R5047 for $989.95 Add the RS tail and backup lights, and you are complete.

Oh yeah! You need the fender brackets (to mount the grille) wait, scrath that, they're in the kit. But I believe a hole has to be put in the inner fenderwells behind the radiator support for the bell crank arms to pass through. I'm not 100% sure on this though.

If you check out GPSuperstore.com Frank gave a guy on there a quote for everything to do the swap. I can't remember what he quoted him though. Check it out. Frank will give you as good of a price as he can.

I bought all my goodies from Classic industries. Not many hours involved at all. Very easy. If you had all the parts you could easily do it in a few hours. Here is a link from beginning to end of my install a couple years ago. My passenger fender was not the RS fender so I made tabs myself to make it work. The tabs only took about 15 minutes to make.

Thanks for all the help everyone!

I am still tossing around the idea. It will cost me about a grand, but is the sexy-ness worth it?

I think so.

Thanks to everyone who replied; and thanks Yody for that link. I was looking at a manufacturer who wanted like $500 for new electric motors. That scared me.

Thanks,
Max

It is the single most valuable option you can add, easily worth 10 to 30 percent more value in the car. personally, I will never build a non RS car for myself, just to cool and to desirable in the open market. A $1000 is pennies compared to what it will bring in return.

I did the conversion but with some hesitation. The standard "look" is more "raw", unrefined, and in some ways more muscle car in appearance. The RS is more refined, subtle, and maybe a little more luxurious (sexy? maybe, I don't know). The main appeal for me now that it is done, is that it looks special and rare. It gives the car a different look that is not seen that often. Most auto heads recognise it, but alot of the uninitiated don't (I think everyone knows what a 69 Camaro looks like). The front is not as easily recognised as a Camaro, overall it really changes the appearence. I like the idea that I can change the look and still stay within the parameters of original (my friend with a 69 Mach 1 is not able to). I also like playing with the headlights and doors, closed/on, open/off for different looks. That is my opinion, I would like to hear others, yea and nea. Regardless, it is nice to know that the value is increased! 10 - 30% WOW!

I absolutely think it is worth it for all the reasons mentioned above. I would do it 100 more times and not even hesitate. The looks, the comments, you will get make it all worth it. I am not one to leave someting original so the second I heard about the RS conversion I was buying parts. :) Up here, seeing a RS 69 Camaro is very rare. Then when you make it a Pro-Touring RS 69 Camaro. Very Very rare in any of the car shows I attend unless I go on the power tour or hit woodward. Then I still dont see very many. Its like seeing a Mustang GT500 on the road. Rare and sexy!!
Plus like Dave said. Its fun to mess with the lights. :)
