anyone here using an Air Bar rear susp. sys. from Air Ride? I've been looking at it for a while but I'm still not sure. it looks like a rather simple intall. something like this would be great on my '66 Mustang. I'm mainly looking to make a little more room in the rear wheel well so I can run a larger wheel/tire combo with the added benefit of ride quality and adjustable ride height.

any thoughts?

Well, I work at Air Ride so of course I am going to tell you how great it is. Jim and Mike Ring installed one on their latest creation and a few other cars as well, so I think they would have a fairly accurate and unbiased opinion. I can however, answer any tech. or install questions that you may have.

We haven't installed an air bar YET? All there other products have been top notch! :icon996:

well, for the most part, am I correct in thinking that the use of the Air Bar will free up some room in the wheel wells of my stang? I'm really trying to avoid mini tubbing just for the wheels. I'm not building anything drastic, just something with more tire under it. we all know how dainty the stock wheels are on '60's mustangs.

also, what would you recommend for the front suspension?

TIA for any info you can provide.

They ran the piss out of a car at the Air Ride deal and it seemed to handle real well..

I think a lot of air ride stuff gets a bad rap because of the stima of the first air bag systems..

Can't wait to do testing on one the systems eventually.. I think it shows great promise. Most of the naysayers go with the "what happens when the air in the bags heats up or cools down, doesn't that change the performance?" It's physics so I don't have a good answer. Thoughts?

The 1 1/8" diameter lower bar bolts in place of the the 2.5" wide leaf so you will gain approx. 5/8". But I think that you will have fender well clearance issues before the leaf comes into play. I think that Bret has had as wide as a 305 on the back of his Silver 69.

ps. I have a 70 Mach 1 428 SCJ on a rotisserie in my garage. UPS just dropped off the new pans and seat platforms yesterday. Can't wait to get started!!

Damn straight we ran the piss out of that car. So much to the fact that we had to trailer it home. Turns out that we torched a couple of pistons. Were you at the Street Challenge? As far as the temp. & pressures changes go, in theory that is all correct. But in reality the effects are so minute that one would never notice. If in fact there was a great temp. change that increased the psi a bit, just let a couple pounds out.

We have the Shockwave for the stock front suspension. We just installed Total Control products upper and lower arms and they are really nice. Lowered the upper control arm mount an inch to get a little more camber gain as well.

What did they use for the front suspension. My initial guess by looking at what appears to be a strut top would be Fatman setup with AirRide struts?

Yes that is what they used on that car. But of course we can use the factory suspension as well.


BTW, we just ordered a new motor for the GSX. An aluminum headed Buick big block. Should be up around 650 ponies. And the stang is getting prepped for an all aluminum blown 427 small block. It should be up around 850hp.

Trying to beef them up a little for the Street Challenge this year. Boris Said made a comment last year about the cars not having enough power....

Then again, think about what he usually drives.

Unfortunately he didn't get to ride in the Chicayne or the Blown 65 Impala, that would have changed his opinion.

cool just wondering if there would be some later model(older than 64) stuff to look at at the ADAMS MARK.....can't wait, we'll be there in the corner w/ the kegirator :Alchy: :cheers:

We stay in Indy all weekend and hang out at the Adam's Mark in the evenings. (My Dad likes the Oldies Music and dance).

Save me a cup for the Keg!

I hope to have my truck there, but who knows?

I'd like to check out the Street Challenge - Darren can you send me some info on it?

Invite only for brining a car or invite only period. Just curious. I won't have anything worthy of a road course done this year, but would still like to check it out. I'm sure many other would too though, so I understand if it is invite only attendance.

I thought maybe Travis was going to fund the keg purchase by taking donations for cups. That's how us poor college kids used to do it!!!!

The kegirator will be at INdy.......will be funded curtisy of Kenny Davis Hot Rods or at least last year it was

The street challenge is seperate deal that we are trying to schedule!

No airsprings for Penny right now but it would be fun on one of my future projects..

Besides, it's more fun flogging other peoples cars at the track ;)
