I have a few questions...

-Is this a good first event for someone with limited auto racing experience, just looking to get their feet wet?

-What kind of top speeds are within the norm or to be expected for the road course portion? I ask because I have not yet built a good engine and while my current 455 is just fine with some blasts up to 110mph, it is an old engine and definitely not ready for endurance at that speed.

This is a perfect event for a beginner. Last year was my first time on a road course. The instructors will have you faster & more comfortable than you can imagine. You will get lots of seat time on the autocross. Go for it. You will back again next year.

It is a PERFECT event for a newbie! Actually it was the first and only event that I have done and have done it a few times. It's awesome. The road course is perfect for a newb because there is almost nothing to hit if you happen to go off. The instructors will help you as long as you listen too.

As they have said above, it's a great event. Putnam Park is very forgiving with lots of run off mostly everywhere, there are a few spots though.. As far as speed, not sure how much power you are making but my Chevelle (380 at the tires) I was hitting right around 120 I believe. Super cool, fun and technical track. The autox at the Terra Haute Airport was a blast too. Plus, the Bowler's are super nice people and put on a great event.

As they have said above, it's a great event. Putnam Park is very forgiving with lots of run off mostly everywhere, there are a few spots though.. As far as speed, not sure how much power you are making but my Chevelle (380 at the tires) I was hitting right around 120 I believe. Super cool, fun and technical track. Well ive gone over 120 with it but got out of it right away. I would not hold it there long. The engine is an $800 dollar Pontiac 455 with 6X4 heads, a mild cam and a Qjet I picked up from a guy who thought he was screwing me over....LOL. Long story. Anyhow Iv'e got maybe 1,200 bucks in the entire engine carb to pan. I got running and have beat the heck out of it for 3 years. If my butt dyno is calibrated properly we are probably in the 375 hp and 450 ft lbs range. Regardless I'm trying to keep it in one piece until I build a good engine and I sure as heck don't want to be the guy to blow up his POS causing downtime on a roadcourse :)

The front stretch is the only area with that kind of speed. You can get out of it early. It is not a big deal. There are hand signals to allow someone to pass if needed.

There will be plenty of guys/gals there with plenty of seat time on that track that would be willing to help you learn different lines. You don't have to go all out, just go out and have fun.
