So I am split right down the center. I notice a lot of people who do a car up Pro-touring style use a wheel that is something like this. I feel like they are almost a pro-touring badge at this point. I have been considering something in that area. I always thought these kind of wheels look so school and scream function over form when they are on a bad original paint car; however, my car does not have bad paint. These are the style I am talking about:

On the other hand I have also been leaning toward doing something that doesn't necessarily alert people to the pro-touring upgrades that are being done to the vehicle. In many ways I feel like keeping something a little more old school on it would also be cooler and have a bit of the loud and gritty muscle car vibe to it that I find to be somewhat appealing. I used to have a 68' Camaro with these on it and saw a picture the other day. The wheels were so awesome on that car. Of course I am talking about the Cragar SS:

So I need to ad some crucial information. The minimum size I am going to be going with is prolly 17X8 all the way around just because I want big brakes, a good contact patch and the same size all around. The car is an 87' Monte Carlo. I know it isn't the most popular car on here because most people have 24's on them, they are slow from that generation and are total boats. This one is a true 1 owner, very very important to my grandma who was that one owner, has ~33,000 original miles and in my opinion has a nice look and good bones. So, don't beat me up over the car. All of those issues are being addressed that I can address. I don't have a decent picture of mine yet, but it is VERY very similar to this stock photo except mine has a white "Monte Carlo SS" decal on the side. As far as ride this car will be riding as close to level as I can get it and will be lowered 2" with spindles and 1" with springs in the front and use cargo springs in rear that I am told by fellow MCSSer's will perfectly level it with the front combo until I get the $6300 together for some fully adjustable Ridetech parts. I'm assuming that is ~4" in the rear.

I'm just looking for opinions on the two styles. For instance: why is the first style so popular?, if anybody has a g-body with either in a 17-20"(I realize SS's only go to 17") or why you prefer one over the other. Also if there are any objective differences or deal breaking factors between the two then that would be helpful as well.
Thanks Guys
