Just wanted to introduce myself, my name is Atli Mar and i am from Iceland and in December 2013 bought my first Mopar, ´71 Dodge Challenger with V8 340
Back in ´99 i made the previous owner an offer on the car but he declined, little did i know that i would end up owning the car 14 years later with him only driving the car 2 or 3 times in that time frame.
The car was painted in ´84 and in ´86 he took it off the streets and didn´t touch it until 2010, the car has been garage kept ever since ´86, so it is a good solid car with very minimal rust.
He told us that he drove the car in to his garage and it was in fine working order, but his son who was studying to be a mechanic had been tinkering with the car so it did not start and the flex plate was broken.
Last summer me and my friend started working on the car trying to get it running and in the end we did but there where something wrong with the motor, it had a strange ticking sound and the head gasket was fried.
So i ordered a new gasket set and had the heads planed and checked for pressure, put everything back together and it still made the ticking noise (but not as much) and there was a lot of white smoke coming out of the exhaust and water, so we think the motor is damaged in some way or another.
Anyways my plan for the car is to make it into some what of a pro-touring car (at the moment) but my dream is to make it a full blown pro-touring car with 6.1 Hemi motor and all the works... but that is a distant dream :)
I have been gathering some parts for it and so far i have bought some Wilwood brakes, MC and prop valve, 17" wheels, Hotchkis sway-bars and shocks and new 2" drop spindles.
Here are some pics from the actual pickup when me and my dad picked up the car in December 2013
and then a picture from last summer with my dad´s ´72 Runner and my car too.
