i am about to pull my last hair out. I want to put a 12 bolt in my 67 but i DO NOT want an original. I plan to narrow the rear to fit my mini tubbed car. i have been told that i do not want a truck 12 bolt and that some are really just 10 bolt parts in a 12 bolt case. how do i identify the correct one and what cars do they come in?
thanks
chris

Why don't you use a 9"? It will probably be cheaper

You need any car 12 bolt, big car, a-body or camaro. I have an extra 70 chevelle 12 bolt and am looking for a 66-67 a-body 12 bolt if you want to work something out.

Yes, it seems I have to pay around $500.00 for the same. You won't need the control arm mounts on the top of the rear but you can cut them off if you want. Now you can narrow away!

Chris,
Where did you find that? Were there any other 12 bolts left?

I have a long post somewhere on here where i was looking at 12 bolt -vs- 9 inch vs 10 bolt 8.2 and 8.5.

After looking at all the info inside and out and comparing the pro's and con's, the cost was going to be about the same no mater what I did. So after much debate my conclusion for myself was to find a 8.5 10 bolt from a 70-74 nova or equivilant body. Buy new Gears, Center section and axles and put for bearing ends on. This way I end up with a bullet proof rear ready to road race and not worry about ford bolt patterns for wheels or breaks. The other thing was the 10 bolt is lighter and uses less HP.

Any of the options I looked at would work but the 10 bolt was just less hassle for me mainly due to the mounts being already installed. The 9 inch removable center section is a strong selling point but one I don't forsee using myself.
