Hello yall. I have a 71 Formula I've been working on between deployments.
As you see the body was hurting. And yes....someone installed TTops at some point

Thanks Saltfuture/PontiacJim. Sometimes it feels like that's all I started with, but the guy who did the paint and metal has always done good work. I knew it come out good, but he surpassed my expectations. I let him know that all the time. While he had it he opened the wheel well with a bfh and trimmed the lip to accommodate wider wheels.
Motown454. Thank you for the support. I went down to the recruiters office a couple days after 911. Felt like I had/have to do something for Merica to pay back all the freedoms we get. You're not the only on that can't wait to see more. Talked to the lady doing my seats and she said the bottoms were about done. So that's cool. She does awesome work. Whenever I get pics of the seats I post them up.
Lucky13firebird. I lucked out with these round port heads. They're from a 71. Got the 2 piece aluminum intake for the 71 too. I maybe able to help you find a set of round port heads. If interested, shoot me a pm with the price range and casting number you're looking for and I'll contact some people.

I know it's been awhile, but I got to go home on leave back in late April. Got a few things done.
The motor is in there, but not everything. The front is still sitting high cause they are new springs, so they need to settle.

Finally got the column back. Looks great. I miss judged the horn button sticker. Whoopsie. That's an original/unrestored steering wheel. I think it gives the car some character.

Not sure why Andrew doesn't want you to get TT II's. Although the V 48's would probably look good also, I think TT II's can look really nice on a 70-73 bird because they go well with the rounded lines of the early 2nd gens.

Quick question about the short block....did you have your own block and send it in to get assembled and prepped by butler? Or did you just buy a short black from them and the rotating assembly? And which ever you did what did it run you? Thank you! Get looking car!

I agree with Andrew. Skip the TT II's. The Year One 17" Honeycombs would look better or the VWW wheels suggested.

Quick question about the short block....did you have your own block and send it in to get assembled and prepped by butler? Or did you just buy a short black from them and the rotating assembly? And which ever you did what did it run you? Thank you! Get looking car!
The shortblock in the pic turned out to be bad. Has a crack on the drivers side across the freeze plugs. The shortblock I put in was from my uncle. It's an original that was
running. I checked the bore on it and it's still factory bore. 4.15. He pulled it out of his car cause it drank fuel like was it was going out of style and it leaked oil.
The dipstick was not installed right. I got that one free. Traded a Pontiac 350 for it. Whenever I go to put a new shortblock in it I'll be getting something from Butlers. Great
guys up there. They're working on my HO heads right now. Their new shop is awesome.
I've never really been a fan of the Honeycomb rims. Something about them turns me off about them. I'm not sure about the US Mags either. They nice, but I'm not sure they'd give the
stance attitude I'm looking for. 17x9.5's up front and 17x11's rear.
The car is 1999 Porsche Guards Red. The brightest red you can get.
I appreciate it too all. I can't wait to get it done.

Found the pair of torque thrust 2's I bought for my 3rd Gen a few years ago in my attic. Forgot they were there, so I dragged them down. 17x11s. Thought they had a 6 1/2 inch backspacing and need 6 inch to fit. Looked them over and the sticker is still on them telling the info on them. 6 1/4. So I need to come up with a little space and they'll go on just right. The rotor is not installed, so it should be real close when done. The leaf spring to the rim is right at 3/8s gap. Same with the shock. The other spot may need a little trim, but we shall see when I get there. Otherwise I'll back it down to 9 1/2s all the way around.

Gonna be a no go with 17x11s on the back. Sick out too far so it ruins the looks. Gonna stick with 17x9.5s on all 4 corners, so these 17x11s will be going up for sale soon.

Well. I got the March pulley kit for my car. The 13105-08. Parts look great. Instructions are difficult/challenging even with the pictures and the pics are kinda vague to understand. So I kinda " winged it " and guessed. I only needed the kit for the alternator and power steering. Got it mostly done today, but ran into a big snag. The instructions have 2 ways to run the belt depending on how you route it. If you're running a fan off the water pump you need a 66 inch belt and 69 inch belt if not. Well I'm running a fan off the water pump. So I get a 66 inch belt. Doesn't fit. Belt is too long. So I've been back and forth to the parts stores trying to find a belt most of the day. Gonna be looking again tomorrow for a belt. Hopefully I can find. So far I'm not happy with anything but the looks of the parts. I'm not even sure the alt is lining up with the rest of the pulleys.

Man I love the small back window F Bodies! Sure glad you saved that car, it turned out beautiful. If I were to guess, I think the resistance to the Torque Thrust has more to do with popularity than looks. Kind of like my hatred for Flowmaster mufflers, love the sound but it seems every car on the road is running them.

I like them better too. The pictures don't do it justice. I think you're right about the torque thrust rims . I think they'll look great on the car. I hate flowmasters. They do sounds nice on some cars, but I won't be putting them on. I've gota custom setup that'll make the car sound wicked, but still have the old school sound.

Found a belt. Went to a 65 inch belt. Still not impressed. There's not really a way to tighten the belt. The idler pulley has an adjustment and the alt has an adjustment. Had to adjust the idler to where I thought the belt would be tight. Force the belt on the idler. The rod that's "suppose" to tighten the belt doesn't really tighten the belt. Also with the movement of the power steering pump. Need to a different pressure hose. Hopefully I can make the low side work. Also noticed that there's an extra bolt that instructions don't really tell me where it goes. Think I would've been better sticking with the original stuff.

Cant wait to hear this one... March is the worst to deal with. Not sure if it is just Pontiac based kits or what but they just haven't figured it out. O had 2 friend go through the same thing that you are experiencing :( Hope it turned out well for you in the end.
I sure hope their LS stuff is better too!

Ok. Here we go. Called March to get it figured out. Help was great. Think his name was Doug. We went through it and come to find out the instructions are for the old design. Once we figured that out. It's good now. The the extra bolt I had went into the back of the pump where the stud was. The belt routing used now is for the 69 inch belt setup. One the belt is installed the idler is adjusted so the belt is snug. Then the alternator is used to tighten the belt. Now for the power steering hoses. I had to use a 90 degree fitting right off the gear box and run it a little different for the low pressure side. The high pressure side I had to get a 45 degree fitting off the gearbox and a 90 off the pump. Everything seems to be back on track for the bird.

Sorry for the long delay. Lot's going on here. So here goes.
Finally got the brakes done and while I was bleeding them I wasn't getting any pressure to the rear even though I was getting fluid. Took the master back off and set it level. Lot's of air in the back half of the cylinder. Once the air was gone. What a difference.
I rebuilt the trans. Ran into a bunch of problems with that. First it was during assembly that the two shift pins broke as I was putting them back in. That was fun getting the trans taken back apart to remove them for new. Went to put the tail housing on and remembered that I still needed to add the location for the speed sensor, so material was added and a the hole was machined. Then went to put the tail housing on again and notice the bearing was gone. Went to get another, but it was discontinued across the board. Found a bearing that does the job and machined it out to fit. Trans is finally back together. Won't go it until I get the clutch kit.

Everything is slow right now due to funds and snow on the ground here in Great Falls, Mt, but the next projects are what wheels, fuel system, cooling system, and diff. That'll be a little bit though.

I forgot to add. I figured out why the nose is still high. The front springs are wrong,so I ordered the correct ones and they'll go in one the trans is back in.

Been a few days since I last updated. Got off work early today, so I got a few things done. Finally got the rear seat done. That was a fun chore to get them covered and installed, but they look good. Not a big empty spot anymore. Got the dash panel installed with the trim rings too. Looks awesome. Also spent most of the afternoon getting the left front spring swapped out. Tomorrow I'll be getting the other side done. Got the trans installed last weekend. I'll probably be ordering the rims sometime next week. Might even have electrical about done too, but that is the most dreaded part of a restoration.

Nah. There are several things that have been left original and unrestored. Keeps some of the nostalgia feel to it.

Finally back on the ground and ended up sitting perfect. Wheel gaps are great. The rims really stand out on the car. 17x9.5's. with 275/40/17 all the way around.

So I am swapping a T56 into my 78 and having an issue figuring out tunnel mods and output shaft angle. You have any pictures showing what you had to do to make that work. Yours looks pretty clean on the inside.

I didn't do any tunnel mods. I have a t56 with the viper tail housing on it, so it put the shifter in the stock location. My bell housing kit came from Weir Hotrod, but there are other companies make one now. For the output angle I kept motor sitting at the stock angles, so I should be where I need to. Thank you. Today I'm gonna roll it out of the garage again an really clean the interior up. It needs it. Probably put the driver seat in it, but it makes such a great game chair to play video games! Decisions, decisions.

Hello to everyone. I know it's been awhile for me to update my car. I got the exhaust done on the car. Very similar to the optional 69 Z/28 exhaust system. Sounds really good and dirty. Might put a pair of resonator's on it to tone it down from the drone that it has. Here's some pics of the system.

I have been driving the car around town and enjoying the car. Converted the car to EFI with FiTech. Was working on tuning the timing control before I deployed. Converted the HEI to be able to be controlled by the FiTech. Works really good. I think I advance the timing a little much, so when I get back I'll be starting back at 0 on the timing.
