I've got Herb at Shiftworks trying to help me but maybe one of you guys has run into and solved this issue. I have a 4l65 with the neutral safety on the side. I got the Shiftworks kit, put the dentent in my 68 Firebird shifter no problem and everything runs smoothly. I got the lever fix it kit to get around the neutral safety switch. I even got the special cable from Shiftworks after having tried a GM cable. The shifter works fine with the cable attached to the bracket on the trans but not connected to the lever so I don't think the cable itself is binding. When I attach it to the lever it is nearly impossible to shift in or out of park. I don't think the cable is getting bound up coming in or out of the sheath. I know shiftworks has had thousands of satisfied customers but there has to be someone who has had this problem and got it fixed.
thanks
Scott

Is it binding on the neutral safety switch? You should try and remove the switch on the side of the transmission, since it's not needed (you have the stock safety switch by the shifter).

I have a B&M shifter hooked up and it works. That shifter uses roughly the same length lever on the side of the transmission. Sounds like nobody has had this happen so I think it may be in my actual shift mechanism.
