Throwing in the towel on our 1969 Firebird Convertible project. It belongs to my dad, but I was the one doing the work. Here's the story on it, and pics of all the progress I've made on it so far...

We bought it off a kid who was in way over his head on it, but unfortunately, we've fallen victim to the same fate. I was a body man for 10+ years, so it's not like I can't do the work, but now is just not a good time for a ground up restoration. Since buying the car 5 years ago, I've gotten married, moved 3 times, started a new, stressful career (Air Traffic Controller!) have a 2 1/2 yr old daughter and a 3 mo old son, and bought a new house, so I haven't been able to get over to my parents' barn as often as we'd like. We're just going to suck up our pride, take it on the chin, and try to break even on the money we have into the project. My dad is just going to refocus his efforts on the '68 Firebird he owns as well.
Quick glance - 1969 Firebird Convertible. 350 Pontiac, 2bbl, 2sp powerglide. Factory A/C, power disc brakes, power top. We have a good amount of the original parts in buckets and boxes, but I'm not going to lie and tell you that EVERY part is there to put the car back together to 100% stock, there will be parts that still need to be bought. The work we've done to the car so far is...
-whole body sandblasted, then I primed it all with PPG DP90
-welded in a complete floorpan
-welded in both toe boards
-welded in both side cowl pieces
-sandblasted subframe and all front suspension parts, plus some odds and ends, then painted with Eastwood Chassis Black
-straightened and primed the deck lid
-cut out old metal/prepped for new metal in the rear of the car (in new part fitment stage now)
New parts include...
-core support
-body mount kit
-complete body bolt kit
-complete weather stripping kit
-front coil springs
-leaf spring shackle kit
-full quarter panels, Rt & Lt
-complete trunk pan kit, including extensions and drop downs
-deck lid filler panel (goes between the deck lid and convertible top)
-complete wheel wells, Rt & Lt
-probably forgetting much more...
A project of this size is definitely NOT for the faint of heart, a lot of work and money goes into a ground up restoration. But, the pay off is, you know for 100% certain that you've got a car that's done right, and to your liking! Not someone else's headache that's full of bondo and undercoating. That's what drew us to the project, because I know what kind of hacks are out there doing god knows what to these old cars to make a quick buck! Me doing the work to the car, I knew we'd save a good amount of money, and it'd be worth what we paid for the car, as opposed to buying one that's been restored from the ground up by a shop for $40,000-$50,000+.
Asking $5,500 obo, and we're located about 30 mins west of Cleveland, OH. I'm more than willing to answer any and all questions you may have, so don't hesitate to ask! We have dozens of pictures documenting our journey with the car over the years, and I can tell you, in great detail, about the work that's been done, and the work that still needs done.
Check out all the pics in the thread above, here are some pics of how the car sits now. It will take all of 15 minutes to bolt the leaf springs and rear end back onto the car to make it a roller again.
