View Full Version : My car was stolen right out of my work parking lot...

Yup...great way to wrap up my day. It had already been the longest day of my life and I was just about to leave for the day when someone from the front office came to see if I was there. He said he didn't see my car outside and thought that maybe I had left. I figured he didn't recognize my 84 El Camino (which I've been driving off and on while the Mustang gets finished for SEMA) and was just looking for my Mustang. Well, 5 minutes later, I stepped out the front door and sure enough...my car was gone.

I had a moment where I thought "wait, where did I park it?" It wasn't me being forgetful, but more of a knee-jerk reaction. So I kind of stood there for a moment in complete shock and then picked up my cell and called my dad, who normally drives the car, but has been kind enough to loan it back to me for the past month.

After breaking the bad news to him, I called the cops and waited on them. The officer who came was really cool and understanding. He was a car guy as well, so that made the situation a bit more bearable. So after I filed the report, my boss gave me a ride home. He felt really bad about it and gave me tomorrow off. Hopefully the find the car, in tact. I don't give a damn if the radio's missing, I just want my car back.

I drove it all through high school and part of college and have a lot of memories in it. Recently it got a fresh paint job, a new set of wheels, and some new speakers.

For the record, the car was locked and in the parking lot...but I guess that didn't mean much to them. If there's any consolation, it's fully insured and had about 3 gallons of gas left in it and a locking gas cap...and I have the key.

It's a crappy feeling I tell ya. And before you go saying "It's just an 80's El Camino, ask anyone who's seen it. It was a fine example of one...

Here are some pics of it (bed had been Rhino lined since)

I still remember the feeling I had 25yrs ago! I traded in the car my parents worked hard to give to me for a 73 Trans am 455sd. It was stolen one month later from the parking lot I worked at. Found it three days later stripped to the shell on the railroad tracks. Hope you find yours in much better shape.

I think you being overhauled, and your parents are behind it. Now you just have to wait out the long 7 days.

Hey Kris did you hear that? You're a celebrity!!!! :headbang:

That sucks about your car. I can really identify with the sentimental thing. I sure hope it is indeed being Overhauled and not at a chop shop right now.

Hoping for good news.

I'll hope for the Overhauling angle as well Kris. Otherwise get the word and pictures out to all the SoCal car guys you can, car like that can't hide for long. Call Freiburger and have him put out the word-put it on the Primedia web sites as well.

Thanks for the support guys. As far as Overhaulin' goes...haha...

It'd be great, especially since I was talking about making the Camino our next project. It's pretty much my dad's car right now anyway and he would actually really deserve something like being Overhauled...but instead I'll probably be finding the thing in pieces or on blocks.

Reality sucks, but that's life I suppose. Just got off the phone with my insurance company and they took a report. It wasn't irritating or anything, just a normal phonecall, so, no Overhaulin' for me...maybe after they recover the car...it might REALLY need it by then...

Yeah you don't want to get me going on car thieves, well thieves in general. It just amazes me that a person can actually steal something like a car, I mean what kind of social behavioral disorder do these people have that they don’t realized that taking something that doesn’t belong to them is wrong, did they never go to kindergarten? I mean eating a grape from the supermarket is one thing, but to take something like a car? People make an honest living to afford the things that they own and then some jack*** has the audacity to take it from you. Sorry about your loss, hopefully the police will recover your car and it will still have most of its parts.

end rant.

On a side note, I have never liked 80’s el Caminos, but yours looks really clean.

I hope they get the people who did it and you get it back.

One question I have is do you have any renderings of it missing?
If Overhauling got a hold of the car maybe someone took a rendering from you to make it look like the same?

I sure hope they are scamming you since you really would be a candidate for the whole thing to happen since your name has come up sooo many places lately.

good luck and keep us posted.

If you are being Overhauled, please punch the lights out of the host of the program for me. Every time I hear, "OK, it time for another phone prank", I loose my cookies.

KrisHorton

No renderings missing...just the car. Problem with Overhaulin' is that if anyone who watches the show gets their car jacked...it builds up their hopes. I'm too much of a realist though. Most people that get Overhauled are probably in on it to begin with or let in on the thing early on.

Wholy krap, I too thought you where talking about the Chevelle...my heart dropped, eyes watered and almost puked in my fruit loops! Then I started loading my 12 with rock salt shells but as I read farther I was happy to see it was the Elco....not that that is better, it still sucks.

Sorry to hear about your loss...if it is Cris and Foose...Kudos to you! Better act suprised! :seizure:

Rock salt is for chasing the boys away from the daughter, I was thinking the Tommy Gun and 1000 rounds of .45.

Bummer Kris, with 3 gallons of gas in a locked tank, it couldn't be to far away unless it was towed off.

I think you being overhauled, and your parents are behind it. Now you just have to wait out the long 7 days.

This is the terrible part of that show.. now everytime a car gets stolen the owner thinks it is getting overhauled when in reality it is getting violated.. I don't find the "joke" of the show funny..

Sorry to hear Kris.. some people in the world just plain suck.. That was a nice Elky and they are hard to replace.. plus you can never replace the memories.. Ive had a car stolen, it's truly disheartening...

Hope they find it for you!

10-08-2005, 03:11 AM
thats horrible. it was a nice g-body elky too. the crappy thing though is they are so easy to break into. i couldnt count the time i've locked my keys in my car and all i needed was a coat hanger. actually slownova timed me and i jacked my own car in less then 10 seconds. although my keys were there a dent puller or crow bar and a pair of needle nose would have made it 20seconds max. hopefully things go as planned and it's on the side of the road out of gas.

Kris, I echo everyone's sentiments. I hope they find the Elky quick and that it's still in fine shape. Any chance they have cameras on or near the lot? Sounds like an inside job for sure, I hope they nail the bastids that took it!

It looks like an easy car to spot. I'll keep my eyes open. Afterall I only pass about a million cars a day.

As far as the overhaulin goes, If they took my car I would tell them to keep it. Just a bunch of hacks if you ask me. I wouldnt wish that on my worst enemy.

While I wish it were true, I think that everyone should stop with the Overhaulin' comments. There is no need to get hopes up for something that we know to be 99.999999999% not the case.

It is kind of like loosing your wallet, and thinking that someone took it to put more money in it for a birthday present.

I'm not trying to be a **** to the people have already posted :)

But, I'm sorry and I hope you find those SOBs.

i know how you feel. my grandfather passed his pride and joy onto me before he passed away. it was a 1985 chevy 1/2 ton truck. nothind special but priceless to me. The girl that i had been dating for 3 years was having car trouble so i loaned it to her. it was stolen out of her houston parking lot. the nect day my 60,000 mile 301 turbo formula was stolen from my house!!! to say the least i was bummed. three days later my tuck showed up at an apartment complex about 4 miles down the road. later the formula showd up at a parts store!!!! i could not believe my luck!!! I hope you also have a happy ending.

I look funny arming the alarm on a beat up old chevy truck but i love that thing. I actually jsut bought a TPI engine to install in it!!!!

Too bad Kris, I know how it feels. Car theft is a bad thing, hope it turns up and not on the news as a pursuit. Alarms are ok, but you got to have a or several switches to disable the system. I had one and it worked. They just did not have time to look for it.

Great news. Just got a call from Kris, they found the car. Bad news is it is partially striped, and has some damage. Kris has not seen it yet, but plans to go to the impound yard in the morning. At least they found it and they are insured.

No...not really. Found out that it was completely stripped, engine and trans, wheels...everything. On top of that, according to the towing company, it was also vandalized after being torn down. Looks like a total loss. Working on it with the insurance...feeling pretty sick right now...

If someone did that to me and I caught them - I would kill them. On top of stripping it, they have to vandalize it too? Thats the ultimate disrespect insult. Low-life scum.

SO - if it DOES happen to me and someone ends up dead - erase this thread for me before the police see it. :)

So sorry to hear this Kris... if there's any way to make the ordeal better, at least it wasn't the Chevelle.
