I have a CRS starter in my 66 Lemans with a 496 in BBC It has a centerforce flywheel [steel] and a muncie 4 speed. The starter to flywheel spec is either >080 thousandth +-.040 or .100 +- .040 depending on the source. I have .260 from the end of the starter drive fully extended. It meshes with the flywheel just past half way. CRS sells a starter mount block that will bring it in .100 closer but I am still out of the .140 spec. The starter drive teeth to flywheel teeth is set at a tight small paperclip , My problem is is that the starter drive does not always mesh with the teeth when I try starting it. Any ideas? Will the .100 starter block that CRS sells for $58 bucks repair my problem?
