Hello,
I'm looking for good heads for a mostly stock 1969 Ford 351W. It's with a Holley 4150 carb (originally 2 barrel) and a new air clearer, no other mods. I plan on getting a new manifold and headers eventually, but right now I need more air flow for the heads. Problem is, I'm on a budget. Stock the engine made 290hp coming out of the factory, and I want to know the improvements this will make in HP and torque. I want to spend under $650, and am more than willing to buy used.
Also, do I need to worry about my lifters and camshaft? I don't actually know what type of lifters it has, so would any of that be a problem when looking for heads? If it makes any difference, it's out of a 1969 Mercury Cougar XR-7, and was originally a 2 barrel carb. I believe it was the base engine at that time.
Anything else I need to worry about, or cheap power modifications? I'm very new to engines, so help and advice is very welcome.
thanks,
