I am working on a 67 Camaro. The original plan was to put a 4-link suspension in the rear But my friend was telling me about the IRS suspension set ups the have now. I was looking around and saw that IRS set ups for a 1st gen are not cheap, But we were thinking we could swap the IRS from a 5th gen Camaro into me car.
I am wondering if that's something that would work.
thanks

I'd cost you way more to fab that 5th gen irs into your car track width is way off and also irs I believe will require you to use a 2 piece drive shaft

Yep it'd be expensive to adapt all of that unless you're fabbing yourself. Cheaper way to go is adapting something older like a Tbird or Mustang Cobra.

Ok, I'm new to the IRS system. What all needs to be modified to fit?

Whats do you deem way off to be? proper off set wheels can resolve a track width issue

MATH/FACT POST
2010+ Camaro V6 model is 64.1" and V8 is 63.7" and front is 63.7' on both, factory axle width on my 1967 Firebird is 62.5" so the "track width" is not really relevant here
I actually bought an IRS setup out of a 2001 Lincoln LS. I haven't had a chance to start working on it but you can get them dirt cheap and the cradle looks like it should fit well. There are 4 mounting points and the rear points are higher than the front. Some IRS setups I looked at had all 4 mounts level so it seems like it would take more work to make that type fit. I wouldn't consider doing this if I had to pay someone to do the fab work though.

I'm using the Camaro/G8 rear because of the aftermarket support and the fact I can literally go to any part of the country and get a part to fix it

I am rethinking the Lincoln IRS now. I didn't realize the G8 and Camaro IRS were the same but I may have to check those out.

Well the Late model Camaro IRS will fit, but it will take a lot of fab work. here's one in going in my Chevelle

Pretty sure that hub to hub on a stock 1st gen is 60". If the numbers you posted for the late model are track width numbers (tire centerline to tire centerline) then you can plan on a hub to hub of at least 65" for the late model rear end. yes you can still fix it with offset in the sheels but will the IRS take 9" of backspace?
