427 tall deck help

Hello.
I had been looking for a big block for my 68 Camaro to replace the 327 small block. I ran across this 427 tall deck for a pretty good deal, but am kind of worried now about clearance problems. The only posts I could find on these engines were older, and was wondering if you guys had any suggestions? I am thinking about making it into a 572.

It will probably be carbureted. I can go with a cowl induction hood.

I was worried about header clearance, and if it would get close to the power booster for the brakes with a taller valve cover. I read about different motor mounts or offset heads to help with header clearance.

Can't speak to header clearance on the power booster as I had an electric mstr cyl but the new setup will be manual but it does seem like you may have an issue there. I am completely going through the car again but here is an old photo. It would have been close with a standard cowl hood but it had a 3.5" cowl hood. Will be running a carbon fiber standard cowl hood with no understructure with the same Hogan's intake which will clear easy. Carbureted you will need a tall cowl hood for sure like I was running. Still have my old one if you are close.

I am from West Virginia. Your car looks really good, and I like your fuel injection setup. I am looking at the hotchkis tvs system as far as suspension, hopefully that will be decent. Let me know what parts you have for sale. Thanks for the link. Did you use stock motor mounts, and what kind of headers are those?

Chris Alston Chassisworks subframe and their BBC 2" primary headers. They are designed to work with only their subframe. You can see them in my build thread.

That isn't going to happen. The 427 bore/stroke is 4.25" Bore by 3.76" Stroke, a GM 572 is 4.56" Bore and 4.375" stroke. On a good day you could safely bore the 427 0.090" and maybe 0.100". At that bore (4.350") you would have to use a 4.75" stroke crank to get close to 572 and you won't fit that into a 427 Tall Deck BBC block. I think the best you can hope for is a 505 (4.35" bore x 4.25" stroke). I know several guys have done this with good results but it can get expensive.
