I'm ready to have a new windshield put in the car. I thought a read something about the thickness of the adhesive strip to get the right height for installing the windshield trim. Did that make sense? It is for a 69 Camaro. I did some searching, but didn't find anything. Hope someone can help me out here.
Thanks, Brett

It seems some aftermarket glass is thinner than original causing problems with the glass sitting lower in the channel and making the trim not sit tight against the glass. Its best to dry fit the glass to center it side to side, the glass should sit on the lower "L" clips. 5/16 was the original width of the butyl tape used but If your using replacement glass you may need to use the 3/8 tape to bring the glass up to the correct height. If you dont your windshield moldings will not lay flush with the glass and you'll have a gap between the glass and moldings.

You can get an auto glass installer to put it in with urethane and if they know what they are doing they will be able to put the trim on and push the window down to the exact position it needs to be.

The Autoglass Specialist in my area have a couple of guys that have done older cars with success and it holds the glass in better making the car more rigid according to them.

Check around and ask first because some guys are better then others and let them know you want and expect perfect.

I might check into the urethane method, sounds pretty slick. Thanks for the info guys.
