Recomendation for Machine shop to make billet transfercase?

I designed a billet transfercase housing for my Stealth TT but I have not found a machine to to have it made. I actaully gave free copies of the solidworks files and drawings to several 3000GT Stealth shops that make custom billet parts. Despite being a decent demand for this part the estimated cost has prevented any shop from actually making parts.

Any recommendations for a quality CNC shop that is willing to make very small runs for resonable prices?

It can be made from a 6"x6" block, the picture below is the stock housing, the billet version is a lot blockier

How long can you wait for the first batch?

You do realise that a design like that, in "very small runs" for a "reasonable" price is a pipe dream? What are the tolerances? I don't have equipment to do that at the moment, but I may fairly soon, or I can send you to someone I trust.

I can wait until next summer if I have to. My intention is to make a prototype to test fit and function with then I would probably sell less than 100 in a year.

As for prices I tend tor get quotes that are one fo the following:
1. Barely more than the material cost so I know that that shop doesn't know what it is doing.
2. Or it a a Ferrari saleman quote of "If you have to ask you can't afford it".

Once my Wepage gets fixed I'll send you a link to the solidworks files and prints.

John, Matt is right. If you want to market it you need to keep any drawings, dimensions, designs, etc away from public view. The fewer people that can duplicate it the less competition you have.

Matter of fact, if you think it's worth protecting, save and modify the attached non-disclosure form and use it liberally. I don't know how effective it is, but it atleast is something on paper, and it lets people know that you're serious.

This is actually my first design that is a direct replacement of the stock housing.

My latest design (which I have not shared) also requires a new cover and a new mid-housing but that allows me to add more material to the problem area. That is going to dobule or triple the price but it is really the best solution.

I think the stock style hosuign would live if I used a 7000 series of aluminum. A high strenght steel like 300M would be almost unbreakable in this application but machining it would be ungodly expensive.

I still need to tweek my model a little before I qet it quoted, thanks for the help

Thanks for all the replies but I one of the shops I talked to amost a year ago surprised me and made a prototype yesterday. I gave away the rights to my desing to see it actaully made and I don't regret it ...too much:)

That sounds like Matt Monet at Dynamic racing. He sponsors the 3000GT Stealth National gathering every year. Matt is a great guy.
Right now I am considering his DR650 trubo upgrade for my custom 3.5L Twin Turbo Stealth

I am not the one who is going to sell them, I gave up my rights to encourage a shop to make them. I just enjoyed designing the part.

Eventually I am going to make a car from scratch, I'll buy the drivetrain but I plan on making the frame, suspension and body from scratch. My sons are 4 and 6 years old. When they get interested in cars I am going to build it with them. If I build a car from scratch I will make a computer model of the entire car ahead of time because I have more time than money.

One of my ideas was to take a 3000GT AWD Twin turbo tuned to about 400HP and build a 2800lb 2 seat sports car around it. This transfer case was just a small part of me modeling the whole drivetrain.

Yeah, Matt Monet. I haven't met the guy but my old roommate has worked with him on a few occassions and everyone I know has nothing but good to say about him.

Ther was some discussion about what to put onthe housing.

The stock housing says "GETRAG" on it.

The most popular suggestion was "GETRDUN"

Earlier some people had suggested sourcing this to China.
I though was extremly rude to mention to the machinist, Sean, who has probably lost a lot of business this way.
I made my opinion damn clear. But Sean had a even better comeback

Haas machines are sweet. We have one here at my school and im fortunate enough to get to run it most of the time. Best of luck with the part, hope things work out for you.
