Hi guys,
I'm not really sure where this should be posted, but I figured since it's mostly a transmission question, it should go here. I'm looking at buying a 69 Cougar with the original drivetrain still installed. It's my dream car, and I want to restore it throughout my life.... The problem is, seeing as I'm still in school and make very little cash, I want to be able to drive it most of the time I'm not working on it. I brought it up with my dad, and he strongly opposes the idea because he is sure that the transmission will go in the first few weeks because it is the original. I wouldn't have the money or time to replace it for at least a month if it went...

So the question is how likely is a decently maintained 1969 Ford 3-speed automatic transmission being powered by a 351w engine likely to blow?

Thanks, and sorry if it's in the wrong place, I'm relatively new here

Is the car being driven now? If so how many miles on it?

One thing is old cars will develop problems no matter how cared for and problems equal money to be spent

I picked my 1969 Mach1 because I wanted a 1969 Mach 1 and put a bunch of money aside to make everything as new so I could drive it. That's because when I was a young kid in school I could not afford one. Now that I am an old fart I bought what I always wanted.

So the question is do you want this car enough to spend tons of money on it and tons of time or are you just looking for transportation and this is what you want

If the answer is for transportation the car is probably not the correct pick for your right now.
