I've read a lot about using swing out door bars on a roll bar or cage but I've seen other cars do it by bending the bar, like this:

This setup looks a lot more convenient than even a swing out but I understand that 1)it connects to the main hoop too low and 2)the bent bar is weaker than a straight one.

Which has me wondering, if this kind of thing could be done with better triangulation? If it's possible to build an accessible, fixed door bar that is still safe and accessible? A setup that keeps the bars triangulated without getting in the way of the seat too much? Would something like either of these arrangements work?

If not, why not? Could some variation of these work instead?

I've been wondering about this too. TO be honest i had plans to make a cage like the top photo except with a short piece connecting the kink of the bar to the base of the main hoop

I don't mind unhooking the side bars when I have to get out. I'm a fan of the functionality and the safety of the cage. I'm not looking for the easy way out, but rather what will keep my ass alive! I'm also not sure if that will pass NHRA track tech. Anyone know?

Here are the Alston swing outs I just put in my 67 El Camino.

The bars in the first pic won't pass NHRA tech, that would be a straight bar only, with out without pivots.

Following to see what people say. I've wondered this myself, as I have a 75 Pontiac Astre drag car with straight door bars that are a pain for my 6'4" self to get in and out of. If I can get by with a bent bar for road courses and auto-x in my future Camaro projects I'd rather go that route.

How about something like the Ridetech Tiger Cage side bars?

After a long talk with Mark at SC&C, my plan is moving to be a very similar layout to the Tiger Cage. Homemade and waaaaaaaay cheaper but similar bar layout.
