My other thread disappeared. A member from this site posted this car several months ago and I was wondering what orange it is?
I need an orange that is bright all the time and not brown in the shade.

*sigh* Brings a tear to my eye. I am a VW guy at heart. I remember that. I was the one asking about it. Crap, I cannot remember who it was. It might have been Travis, in fact, I kinda think it was...

Another VW guy here too. First car was a standard '72 beetle. I'd love to do another one, they're so cheap on parts and so many around. Anyway, I'd like to see what this person has done since finishing it, if its done.

He had some chrome Empi 5 spokes and (i think) Tan interior. I know it belonged to someone here who is a frequent visitor.

good find, color looks different outside
Since we are talking about our love for VW's. I just got done restoring my 57' Oval/Ragtop. It took me a little over a year and I did everything myself, Paint, Interior etc. Now if I can just get my Nova done I'd be happy.

Congrats on the find. Looks like that orange is out. :pat: I dont want an orange that looks brown outside. Thanks for finding that.
I wonder if the camera makes it look brown of if thats really how it is outside with indirect sunlight?

Georgous! Good job. I sure miss mine. :( I had a silver 63 Rag that was getting the Cal-Look treatment. I sold it cause I had too many projects to do at once. 2 Bugs and a 79 TA.

I was going to use that kind of burnt orange on my trans am until it became so freggin popular. I think any kind of metallic oranges are going to look brown in some light. Unless you go with something really bright, like a neon (yuck) color, you are going to run into that. You might be able to get away with something that has a pearl in it, but with an orange, it might end up looking peach.

If you go to www.houseofkolor.com you can see the picture under their Gallery, in the 2005 winners for best paint (there are some AMAZING paint jobs in there). I think if you call them they would know the information...

Be careful though. You want to make sure the HOK and pearl you got will work together.

That Camaro...I am almost positive that is a Candy Orange with a Pearl blend....but I am not a painter.

Thanks for the information. The pearl I have is just the flake stuff you add to the paint or the clear.I will give HOK a call some time. I know they are expensive but mabey I can at least narrow down a color then take the name to the local store where I buy my paint and try to match it up.

HOK might have the perfect product and color your looking for. If it's only the accent stripe it seems that you only need a small amount of the expensive stuff. Maybe it's not out of reach since you need just a little? How much do you need of a product to do say a stripe and some small flames?
I know at one time I was researching the PPG Harlequin colors(come to think of it they might be GREAT for an accent stripe). These colors are just unbelievable when seen!
http://www.airglowpainting.com/portfolio/harlequin.html (See em here!)
It's like having the cosmos trapped in a strip of paint! Very very cool. Also very very pricey. I was trying to work an accent into my project with them, and since I would have needed just a little, it seemed feasible. Non eof them are "orange" though.
The orage in the first pic is not a harlequin and may well be just a normal(read affordable) price.

Kevin and everyone else. Keep in mind this color I am picking will be sprayed on the entire Mustang too. Not just the accent stripe on the Camaro. To answer your question I will need 2-3 quarts mabey to do both projects. The entire mustang will be this orange.

ever think of a candy? we have a candy orange hummer and its bright as all hell.

ANy pics of the hummer?
I called HOK and I currently have 4 or 5 part numbers and color names laid out to choose from. I will go to the local paint store and compare between HOK and PPG paint chips. I have been very happy with the PPG products so far.

Johann,
That is an amazing looking Corvette but its too close to Home Depot orange for what I want to do. I appreciate all the ideas.
Here are the results from the HOK vehicles.
This car is painted with a mix of HOK Sunset and Bitter Sweet
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://img383.imageshack.us/my.php?image=orange37car8eq.jpg)
This truck is a mix of HOK Sunrise and Cinamin
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://img383.imageshack.us/my.php?image=orangetruck1vc.jpg)
Here is a list of HOK colors for me to choose from that might work. I am going tomorrow to the paint store to see if I can match a PPG close to these. If not then I will bite the bullet and get HOK. Regardless I need so see some paint chips tomorrow to narrow down the color. Should be a really fun day for Heather since she and I will be picking the exact color for her Mustang tomorrow. :)
I have an old hood and fender that I will be able to test some ideas on with the orange pearl in the clear.
1. Sunset
2. Sunrise
3. Tangelo
4. Ultra Orange
5. Whatever that Hummer color above is.
If nothing else this thread will sure help a lot of people out when looking for orange colors. :look:

Well as much as I would like to give you guys an update, I am now bald. I about pulled my hair out on friday trying to find an orange! The guy I normally deal with at the paint store wasnt there so I had to deal with the lady filling his place. An hour and a half later I just picked some omni orange in a 8oz container to try out. I dont think I am going to like it. This is driving me bonkers. :help:
She talked me out of HOK and PPG saying that I could get the same effect by using cheap base then just make the clear coat crazy. rrrrrrrr
I just grabbed the 8oz with cheap clear to try it out. I will spray an old hood we have but im sure I wont be happy with the results. :hammer: :banghead:

I will be spraying the orange tonight that we picked up onto an old hood to see how it looks. I will base the entire hood then do one half with pearl in the clear and one half just straight clear.
If this orange doesnt work then we are highly considering HOK sunset orange. Very very close to deciding.

House of Kolor Sunset PearlThis stuff will jump out at you in the sun and "does not" turn brown in any light.
Also, a friend of mine has the special edition PT Cruiser (Dream Cruiser) that the other orange you were contemplating on came with and it sure doesn't seem as dark as the orange on that bug? JMO?

Thank you every one that helped me with this difficult decision.
Im sure these threads helped a lot of people out that were looking at orange.

I have some pearl orange and pearl silver that I will mess around with in the clear coat.

Camaro boy, it shows up more in the photo of the model, but I blended a little red/orange around the bottom areas , it really makes the paint jump a little. Its very subtle but it works. You almost dont notice it at first. Too much and it looks corny.

As stated above, it's 2004 PT cruiser "Tangerine pearl" from PPG. I used that color on my 1991 Z28. I can't drive it without 3-5 people stopping me and asking "what color is that?"
