More fun and games. Bought a AAW wire set for my 66 Lemans convertible from Summit racing long time ago. The guy at summit sent me a convertible top wiring harness. Yesterday I installed the motor/hoses/cylinders and hooked up the wires at rear. Went to front to hook the wiring up and it was all wrong. Seems Summit looked at the wrong part no. and sent me a wiring harness for a
Firebird.
I called AAW and that's when I found out that they do not make the convertible harness for the 66 convertible. Seems they do not make it cause they do not have the factory wiring schematics so they will not make it cause of LIABILITY? The harness includes wiring for FI fans and other accessories but not for a convertible top???
As near as I can tell from my other convertible there is an 8 gauge wire that runs from the battery along the head lite wires to a relay near the master cylinder and from there a 10 gauge wire to the switch on the dash and then the 10 gauge purple and gray wire to the motor.
With the problem of the ignition switch and the tail lite sockets and now the wiring for the convertible top, lets just say I am not happy with their wiring harness kit.

One of my guys is installing this same kit in a 66 Convert right now and he loves it... The whole care is pretty much wired but we haven't got to the top yet.

There are fused and direct battery aux wires under the dash. I have a 67 pontiac convt. And am using one of these circuits for my top , one for power windows and one for, power seats...

Fuse Rating
FUEL 15 amp. Fused 12 volt IGNITION feed for fuel pump (may also be used to feed power to another ignition circuit)
BAT1 20 amp. Fused 12 volt BATTERY feed for power ats (may also be used to feed power to another battery circuit)
BAT2 30 amp. Fused 12 volt BATTERY feed for power door locks (may also be used to feed power to another accessory circuit)
IGN1 20 amp. Fused 12 volt IGNITION feed for cruise control (may also be used to feed power to another ignition circuit)
PWRWDO 30 amp Fused 12 volt IGNITION feed for power windows (may also be used to feed power to another ignition circuit)
ACCY1 30 amp. Fused 12 volt ACCESSORY feed (may also be used to feed power to an accessory circuit)

Have you read my threads on the tail lite sockets and ignition switch?

Do you have a separate thread for this? If so, no I haven't.. But we did have to do some wiring for the tail light sockets and Ignition, I didn't think that was much of a issue.
We haven't powered the car yet though, Is their something I should be expecting?

Yes I did write separate posts about the tail lire socket pulling apart. I also wrote one on the ignition switch where I spent a lot of time[ probably stupidity some what on me ] because there is an x-tra position on their ignition switch. acc, lock, off, run, start. I am puter stupid so I do not know how to reference them sorry

I found them.. I'll have to check out the tail lights. But i am kind of use to nothing ever going as planned or as you would expect it to... It's why things seem to always take more time than you would originally expect..

If you don't find a solution to your power top dilemma, I might be able to help you out. I specialize with integrating late model features into older cars via specialized harnesses....I have some ideas for ya....PM me if that's easier.

Yes I hope so. Went to Advance Auto and they had a 40 amp circuit breaker which I think will do in place of the 40 amp relay. If I had been thinking I would have though of it. But when you get the wrong parts and have take out the seats pull up the carpet remove the insulation and being a hot head and seeing red........ I am lucky that I have a 66 GTO rusting away in my back yard that still had the wiring for the top in it . I used the old wiring from the switch to the motor [ the AAW wiring kit for a Firebird that Summit sold me by mistake is a smaller wire ] and then wired the circuit breaker in using 10 gauge wire . The only difference is I used 10 gauge wire which is what the rest of the system uses after but uses 8 gauge to the relay. It is yellow if someone needs to know. It just kind make you mad when AAW can't make a 10 ft 2 in 10 gauge purple and gray wire that have the same connection on each end and a 8 gauge wire that is long enough to go from the battery to under the brake master cylinder. It is not like there is not many 64 to 67 GM A-Body around. If they can add FI FI fuel pump igniter wires but they can not research what they need to wire a convertible top? Too much of a legal risk?? That is what they told me! Thanks for the help. Sorry bout the rant
