Hey I'm looking for a comparison from people who have upgraded the steering on there car. I had a 1968 firebird that I sold and I was thinking about getting a Camaro a similar year (1967-1969). One of the biggest problem I had with the car was its steering and handling. I found a lot of posts about different upgrades being better than factory but can anyone compare their upgraded car to say a newer car. I test drove a 2009 BMW M3 and loved the way it handled. That on a camaro and I'm sold I know a new m3 and a car almost 50 years old are totally different but the 2009 m3 is around $40k so with that 40k could I get a camaro to steer like a new car? I would upgrade front and rear suspension (ridetech or speedtech is what I'm looking at but I don't want this thread to be about that). I'm even open to am aftermarket subframe if that's what it takes. I saw speedtech's subframe can take rack and pinion. Any others? Has anyone used this or a different one and can compare? I can't really go to the dealer and test drive a custom first gen camaro so any helpful insight would be appreciated.

I found a power rack and pinion kit on speedtech's website and emailed them about it in case anyone was looking into what I am. If anyone has used this some feedback would be great.

I think if you look around on here you will find a lot of camaros that would mop the floor with that m3.....
I just bought a complete ride tech set up for my nova and I expect it to be a new car when I'm done.

I agree with Jason. There's a lot of cars on here with several different suspension brands that'll out-handle a factory M3.

We also have a full chassis for these cars to upgrade the front & rear all at once with a completely redesigned suspension that's proven to beat up on all modern sports cars.. Keep us in mind too!

For steering, we did a rack & pinion kit (Unisteer) on a 69 Camaro recently, it required a bit of re-work and still isn't the greatest for bump steer and the routing of the steering shaft is a little funky.
A lot of guys with the factory subframe like the RideTech Tru Turn package, along with their spindles, and a new quick ratio steering gearbox. That'll get it steering nice. The handling will come from sway bars, coilovers, and tires (at a minimum).

Look at the DSE subframe it also incorporates power rack and pinion steering. I have one installed in my 68 and I have been more than pleased. BTW, my 68 will drive circles around an M3. I know cause I have done it.
