I'm working with a friend on his '69. He's having an issue with not being able to trigger the starter from the ignition. Car runs just fine if you jump the starter.

Im thinking I found the problem, but I want a professional opinion before I continue. He has a 4 speed car, and as best I can tell, it doesn't have a clutch safety switch. The wiring harness does seem to have a provision for a clutch/neutral safety.

If i am reading correctly, the switch is wired in line with the ignition switch, so I should just be able to jump the connector, correct?

The harness wiring for the neutral safety switch might be setup with a relay. If it's not hooked up to switched power then the ignition switch can't engage the starter solenoid. I've ran painless in the past on my manual trans Mustang about 10 years (no neutral safe switch) but don't remember a neutral safety wire, BUT I do remember a similar problem with the ignition switch not engaging the starter. I ended up removing the cig lighter and installing a push button start. Try running that neutral safety wire to a 12v source then turn the key, I bet it works.

I had to do this on a friends car, worked just fine!
