So now I have an issue or two. Been scrounging for small parts. Time and money to do what I want.
Biggest issue has been locating the title to the car. The guys who gave me the car cant locate it, BMV seems to be giving me circle jerk to file for title.
Friends dad bought it for the 305 in it but he passed away last year
So his brother came down and seemed to be offering me a 78/79 2 dr sports roof they have in decent shape.
Bad thing is I have some time and money invested in this one and a friend has been working on parts tags and window sticker to lend to the "fantasy" of What If,,,?"
Could I make it from a 4,5,6 yr older car, sure. I kind of liked the look as its a little sharper line wise.
So do I see whats up with the OTHER car (78-79 Impala Sports Roof) or keep looking into the title issue on the 84.
Basically all I have in 84 is some time in swapping out wheels, installing one new outer tie rod and all that can be removed easy enough.
Biggest thing is what do I do?
Still got 454, TH400, wheels, too start with.
Seems most parts might interchange that I have got already. I also had tried to talk them out of a 66 Impala 4 dr their dad jsut wouldnt drive or part with.
He was a great guy had owned/built many cool old car and was "fix it up on there one of these days" .
Biggest thing he never had cash, time or basically energy to do this or any of his other projects.
Never understood why he kept picking up cars.

So question is do I move on to car with title but different body style ,sort of?
OR
Try to work deal out on another car, possibly the 66 4dr?

Well, without the title, the last registered owner can claim it stolen, then they get all your hard work. I had a title issue a few years back on an 03 Cobra. I did eventually get the title but it took a few months. The seller should be able to get you a bill of sale and or go to the BMV with you. They'll probably issue the seller a relacement title and have it signed over to you on the spot. It'll cost a replacement title fee and transfer of title.

if not registered in 10 years you can get new title

Well, that was the info I had before. But obviously they changed rules, yet I cant find the proper book.
I really had some ideas, basic drawings already done.
Now I havent given up just yet, need to run to BMV one more time, hoping to get some better info as last time I was in too much of hurry. Last I knew was after getting it inspected/ran by police they filled out a form, I take to BMV and then do more work.
But I do know Indiana got real funky back when scrapping was going strong. Guess lots of stolen cars got scrapped and some yards got hammered even though they really didnt do anything bad except in trusting the scrappers too much.
Heck I have car that hasnt been plated since early 90's (!!!!) and they have it in computer. So I am guessing the old 10 yr rule might be over with.
But other cars are not in my records.

Your buddy or someone in his family should have power of attorney from when his Father passed away. See if they will apply for a replacement title. Offer them some cash or?

Jetfixr, as these guys are some of my best friends getting things taken care of is not issue, biggest thing is they didnt always retitle cars after buying them. Generally they have signed titles or buy cars for parts, but both swore title was in glovebox, which it wasnt. Just some old insurance papers and a GM window sticker or build sheet,,,or something like that.
Biggest thing is that the older brother who actually gave me the car has already done a bigblock 79 Sportsroof if you look up VFN under Chevrolet you can actually SEE his bronze Impala with black VFN 4 in cowl hood.
It is now completely repainted same color. While I like the older body I wanted some slight difference from his car while still in the Impala family.
And it was free.
I did open door on other car they have but might have to come up with some sort of cash. The other car I tried to get off their dad, he just didnt want me to get it and never fix windshield leaks, they need resealed. Big thing is my uncle does glass and bodywork and I have a friend IN glass business.
And I can do it too if need be. Oh the other car is a 1966 Impala 4 door. Saw one done with suicide rear doors and hidden handles, another with suicided rear door and lambo front doors. Kind of fleeting moment of though of all four doors down lambo, but rears suicided?
But going to BMV tomorrow to try and get some more concise information on my options. I know about having it inspected and ran for theft, and doing some paperwork and possibly sending a registered letter to current name on title.
If its in his dads name it would be no issue. Might find out more tomorrow.

Well swapped/deal on 1966 Caprice 4dr Sports Roof. Pretty good shape, needs some love. Kind of meet, 4dr, no BB pillar!
