On the fence about whether or not I'm going to sell the '68 Cutlass S I recently acquired, but in any case, it's in need of new rolling stock. Don't want to spend a fortune on new wheels/tires if I am going to sell, so I'm trying to keep total cost at a grand or lower. What I'm looking at is the black-powdercoated Cragar Soft 8 wheels in 17x9 all around, with 5" of backspacing. I know these things are damn-heavy, but they fit the budget and they'll look right on this car (car is all-black.) My question is; is anyone running this combo on a GM A-body with 275 section width tires on all four corners? If so, an fitment issues?

I don't fit all your requirements to answer your question but I have a set of Soft 8s I picked up new for a different car. I was in the same position as you, needed something that would work and affordable. Yes, they are heavy.
As for the 275s, they will fit on a 9" wheel, but can't answer if they will work for your car.

Nice Cuda! They look right on that car as well...tough to go wrong with black-on-black.
