I've been holding off on doing this thread until I had more done to the car, I think I'm at a point now where I can start posting some progress pictures!

I picked up a 93 LX hatch about a year and a half ago to have a little fun with and slowly build over time. The main goal for the car was building a fun daily driver...obviously, that hasn't worked out to well just yet. I picked up the car, thinking that all it needed was a clutch. Bored .030 stock block, DSS rotating assembly, Edelbrock heads, Anderson cam, Edelbrock intake...It sounded decent idling, although I couldn't drive it with the clutch messed up, I couldn't pass up the deal. It's one of the cleanest foxes that I've ever seen, complaining really isn't an option for what I paid for it! Now, I'm leaning more towards a Pro-Touring build style with the intent to build a badass street/autocross car.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s1139.photobucket.com/user/jglad91/media/20130506_021520_zps84b0c8a1.jpg.html)

As soon as I got home, I started tearing into it, seeing what all needed to be done/changed/updated. Typical fixes and issues, starter hanging up, exhaust leaks, finding wiring goblins, etc.

I did all of what I could while waiting on the pieces for the clutch to come in, so I started doing typical maintenance things while waiting....and then my first issue pops up. I'm going through, changing the spark plugs, and then I get to the last one. The only one out of the 8, that isn't angled, it's sticking straight out of the head. Awesome. I ended up pulling the heads off and taking them to a buddy who owns a machine shop, get everything fixed up, and had them gone through just for an extra piece of mind.

About a week later, it's back together and I think I'm good to go!

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://i1139.photobucket.com/albums/n553/jglad91/20130630_171714_zps1ff87846.mp4)

After everything for the clutch arrives, I decide to go ahead and drain the fluid from the trans before I pull it out. It was at that time that I realized, I had more than just a clutch issue. It wasn't just metallic fluid. It was metallic fluid, with chunks of pieces. It's a good think that T5 rebuild kits aren't too expensive... Everything was going from "too good to be true" to "I'm ready for this thing to catch on fire" extremely fast. While my transmission was being gone through, I converted the car over to 5 lug and threw on a set of Racestar's that I had from a previous car on it. Not the style that I was going for, I just had them sitting there until I could find a 18" set of wheels that I wanted to spend some money on. They looked kind of cool for a while! Finally, I had the car to where I could at least drive it. It ran, shifted, and didn't blow up (yet).

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s1139.photobucket.com/user/jglad91/media/20130930_215617_zps8b27fb4b.jpg.html)
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s1139.photobucket.com/user/jglad91/media/20131020_1251140_zpsdd7d0ab9.jpg.html)

It's been doing good so far. At the moment, I've got quite a few more pictures to post and information to update on the car, but it's got several irons in the fire as we speak! This is how it was sitting a week ago but things have changed.... I'll post that update as soon as I get the pictures on my computer! These pictures were before all of the fun things started .

The last week has made several changes in the car :bananna2:

This is what she came in here like!

We've been developing our new suspension for these cars, so the guys have everything mocked up and ready to go!

I'm going with our new coilover setup, in the front and rear. The struts in the front, are our monotbube, Fox Racing shocks, with our billet mounts. Just a nice, clean piece. I'm digging the new caster plates that we're running up top!

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2014/08/DSC04583_zps34dbabd7-1.jpg (http://s1356.photobucket.com/user/Ridetech2/media/DSC04583_zps34dbabd7.jpg.html)

On the rear, we've built a new shock bracket to help push the shock out for added clearance for the Shockaves/coil springs. It utilizes the factory upper mounts with new, delrin bushings that make the ride alot more comfortable/quiet to deal with.

(The Shockwaves were also put into place for test fitment)

They're fun cars, I've been wanting to do something with this for quite a while! Hopefully, it doesn't get drug out too long...

It shouldn't be long at all. We've got a couple of pieces that are build specifically for this kit but the production parts should be done reasonably soon!

Those parts should bring a lot of these back to life! Better than before. :)
Haha it's a little different now :). The new clutch is coming in today. Now, I just need a stronger engine...

My new clutch and clutch cable came in yesterday :headbang:

We stayed after work last night, threw it in, what a difference..... McLeod makes a very nice product! I drove it home last night and back to work this morning, I don't even know how to describe having the new clutch and suspension on the car, but I'm still smiling :twothumbs.

There is alot of adjustment in the shocks, most cars can be dialed in with the valve stacks that we use standard. If something needs to be valved, specially, we can do it (it's just something that rarely needs to be done).

They're FR500 replicas. I'm running a 17x9 (245/45-17's) in the front and an 18x10 (295/35-18's) in the rear.

Awesome progress. I'm partial to fox Mustangs. The 91 Hatch 5.0 I bought earlier this year makes the 25th Mustang I've owned. Did you keep the Shockwaves on the car or go back to the Fox Racing setup? I've been looking at the Ride Tech setup and trying to figure out what I'll need to change for it to work on my 86 T-bird.

What is the spring rate on those air spring equipped struts and shocks?
My LSC has the soft ride springs and I'm planning to replace them with either LSC air springs or coil-overs, your air spring "coil"over setup looks like it would be the best of both worlds, since I already have the pump, dryer, lines, etc.

With the Shockwaves, we have a chart for what each bag will lift (rated @ 100psi). I'm sure that there is more information available, that explains what PSI, on each style of bag, equals as a spring rate. When looking at the chart, we take the vehicles weight into consideration, and pair that up with the air spring at matches it's data. On the Fox body, SN95, and other lighter cars, we're using a 7000 series spring on our shocks/struts.

The 7000 series are rated to lift 780lbs @ 100psi. With the differentiating weights, it may take be less/more than 100psi to lift the vehicle. Whatever pressure that it takes, to get the shocks/struts at mid-stroke, is what needs to be ran in the bags. The main thing is making sure of what your car weighs and then getting the correct shock length for your application. After that, it's just putting those numbers together, and building a shock/bag combination.

I've been trying to stay busy on this thing, I've had alot of parts coming in (finally) and now it's pretty much all down to assembly. I know there are going to be alot of things that I do along the way, so more than likely, it's going to take longer than I've planned. I ordered the the Scott Rod engine bay panels to clean up the look, I love a clean engine bay! Needless to say, there's going to be some wire-tucking going on. I wasn't planning on the burnout video being the last time I drove it, but I walked into the garage the other night, and starting pulling things off. I've just got to drop the trans and pull the engine in the next couple of days. Once that's done, I'll get my tubular K member put in, weld the Scott Rod panels up, and paint the bay. Hopefully, by then, the engine will be ready to fall in place!

I have a little bit of progress going on. Here are some shots of the rotating assembly, finally up on the stand. I've still got to check the piston to valve clearance. Right now I'm waiting on a woodruff key to come in, every parts store I go to that has a guy with a blank stare on his face, so I just gave up and ordered one from Jegs... The Scott Rod Fab panels have finally shipped to me, so I'll be pulling all of the engine bay apart, welding those in, and going in for paint VERY soon! :D

Right now, I've got the engine over at my good buddy, Herb's garage (everyone on here knows him as Yelcamino). Although, He's a BB chevy guy, I talked him into helping me out :).

We got a good amount done over the weekend!

I'm going a different route on brakes (pictures to come :)), I've got the engine and trans about to go in, after that's back in, I can make sure all of my wiring is where it needs to be and I'll be in service, shortly. I hope...

The weekend was a little hectic but I got some things done. I got the engine set in the car without too much of a fight, the transmission was a little more of a job. SO tidy looking. Strong work.

I like that gauge cluster a lot. I can't help but believe that it'd read more accurate than my stock 80mph speedo... (especially since some clown placed the 160mph sticker on without replacing the guts)

forgive my new guy question, but why two widebands? Just watching both banks, or ?

Thanks bud! My old cluster wasn't anywhere near accurate, these are awesome so far! They fit great and make it look alot more modern.

On the widebands, I've been talking to the guy who is going to do my tuning. He likes being able to see both banks to make everything as accurate as possible, that, and I'm planning on a supercharger down the road so I figured I'd knock out as much as possible now :)

Lol, if it makes you feel any better... this was never my intention for this car. The "daily driver" dreams are gone, I'll be the one getting laughed at when the car's in the garage because it's wet outside!

I've been to the junkyard a couple of times, but I've spent way more time on the internet picking out parts... no doubt there!

Cleared everything good, I mocked up the fender to see how everything looked and it's going to be tight but I don't think making them fit is going to be too big of an issue! I'm thinking a 265/35-18 is about as big as I'll be able to get on it at the moment, unless I flare the fenders a little bit (which isn't out of the question just yet :D).

Essentially, something to this effect. I wanted it right in the front, where it was easily accessible. The 6AL2 gives me a few different options to adjust, so it's nice to have it handy (or if something goes wrong, I can get to it quickly).

I put the car back down on the ground to roll it over to the lift. I'm switching the rear end over to a 31 spline setup this weekend, so it'll be alot easier. Now, I'm just depressed that I don't have tires for the new wheels yet, I'd love to see it sitting on them...

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif (http://s1139.photobucket.com/user/jglad91/media/20150617_233002_zpsdcsqov2h.jpg.html)

On another note, I got a good deal on a new dash! The guy who had my car, previously, ran lines inside for his mechanical gauges. Dumb decision, yes. Even more dumb decision, drilling a half dollar sized hole in the dash to run the lines through..... While I've got the old dash out, I'll get some of the wiring cleaned up, mount the computer for my Dakota Digital unit, and take out some un-needed weight :D.

Just a shot of the engine bay, with the pieces mocked up in place. I'm really just down to wiring, running brake lines, and little knick knack stuff...

Hey Josh,

Your project is coming together nicely!!

Great selection of parts on your car. I really love the Fox-bodied Mustangs. While waiting on the completion of my project, I have been honing my driving skills with my endurance racer. There is nothing like taking 3-hour stints in a 450hp, 347ci, TKO Mustang!

I'm excited to see your ride on the 18's... (even though i'd knock an ice cream out of an orphans hands to have the fr500's...)

I'm curious as to how much weight you find inside the dash too... i've been considering putting my car on a diet...and my heater core needs done anyway... seems win win...

Looks like your body/paint guy is dolling up outside the hood too. I like the shaved antenna... or are you going full custom lowride style with a frenched auto-retract?:box:

This one is a UPR setup. I'm very happy with it. There were a couple things that I had to make clearance for but I did a lot of modifications/relocations, so I'd say that the clearance issues were because of me ;)

If you weren't on the other side of the world, I'd be happy to sell you the FR's! On the weight loss, I'm curious too. I found a dash that was in better shape than mine, so this was the perfect time to start taking out unwanted pieces. Haha, the antenna is something that I did a while back on my dad's notchback (which turned into my car about a month ago). It had a new set of fenders and he didn't want an antenna, so we made a patch panel and smoothed it out.

and no lowrider style is happening here :).

I got the chance last night, to tear the rear end apart. This wasn't in the initial plans but I ran into a couple snags that I thought might need to be addressed (in the end, they didn't). It's too late to turn back now, it's getting a 31 spline setup. Also, it's getting some 3.73's thrown in it :D.

Well, I got farther along this weekend, but not exactly where I want to be. My plans were to start the car up but the fuel pump won't kick on, so I've got some things to trace down.

I put the new dash in along with finally getting the Dakota Digital VHX setup wired in. It's looking like I'm going to have to drop down the fuel tank to get the fuel level sending unit working, properly (it can't ever be something quick and easy...). I love the way that this cluster looks!

Haha, that's been my motto for the last couple of weeks! After work, I've been spending most of my time in the garage, til about 2 in the morning or so!

I got it running a little better last night but it looks like the oil pan is coming back off, it started pouring oil down the inspection plate. I guess the gasket didn't seat right, or something. It could be worse though, I've got pulling the front end out, down now!

I think I may be twice your age. I could tell you lots of things to make your life smoother but you might not want to listen an old guy. The car will be great when you're finished. The Dakota gauges are great. I may retrofit those in both of my hot rods. If you didn't use the one piece pan gasket with the right oil pan, that may be the reason for the leak. Great progress. :)

I'm always open for advice, I'll take any help that makes it go smoother :). The Dakota Digital setup is one of my favorite pieces that I've done! I've had a little bit going on with the car lately. It's been a crazy month, I sold my supercharger and got engaged! I tore the inside apart, rewired quite a bit, and then starting prepping everything for my roll bar to get welded in. I just received some things so I can finish up reinforcing my torque boxes and getting the subframe connectors on. *Hopefully*, the car is back in driving shape in a few weeks. I've got alot of work ahead of me though. My goal is to have the car painted and sitting in our booth at Mustang Week, in July. We'll see how that goes!

She went under the knife this weekend (for many hours). I spent Saturday and Sunday taking the inside apart and tigging in the Wolfe Racecraft cage. I made a couple of modifications to make it fit the way that I wanted but it was a really nice kit. The new carpet and rest of the interior will be in shortly but I wanted to throw these pictures up while I had the chance. While I had the grinder/welders going, I finished putting the Stiffler's FIT system on. Like a typical fox, my frame rails/pinch welds had been used as jacking points in the past, which made more work for myself. After bending the pinch welds back into place, I was able to get everything tacked into place and finish welded on. This car should be extremely solid now! I'll get more pictures of the Stiffler's system when I get all of the welds painted up. It's an unbelievably nice kit.

Thanks man! I hadn't put subframe connectors on the car just yet so I ended up using the whole Stiffler's FIT system. Now that the car's tied together and running our suspension setup, it should be an animal in the corners!

Please explain the engineering in the under car bracing.

The setup that I put on the car was 3 different pieces: Subframe connectors, 2"x1" tubing along the pinch welds, and the bracing in the center

The fox body cars are extremely flexible so the subframe connectors are a must, they tie the front and rear together. The pinch weld stiffeners are something that I can use as a jacking point now (the car never really had a good spot for a jack). The bracing welded between the two is just added strength that would also be helpful in the event of a side impact.

Haha, it doesn't look awful but I've had to buff, buff, and buff some more to get it where its at. There is some clearcoat peeling off in some random places that I want to get fixed. While I'm in the build process, I thought I'd go ahead and get it over with! I appreciate the good words!

Just an update!

I've been playing around with a few things. I'm doing away with the rear seat and making a new floor (will be carpeted), re-did the battery wiring/chassis grounds, and made a battery mount to put between my spare tire well. I never have liked the battery boxes mounted on the corner of the car but for what I'm doing, centering the battery won't hurt my weight distribution too bad :). I've got the cage all painted, put the new carpet in, installed the new Ridetech harnesses, and put about 50 miles on it in the passed couple of days. I've got a couple issues still making me mad but it is what it is! I'll get it taken care of!

Thanks man! I hope there's never a Cheeto's thumbprint on them! If there is, it'll come from my 3 year old crawling around in the car! Lol

That's exactly what I was looking for when I bought this one, it's the perfect height/angle (and it feels alot stronger than the typical Hurst shifter). This one is from Bowler Transmissions.

After a lot of prolonged work, the car is at the new house. I found my issues with the car sucking oil through the PCV and spitting it out of the air filter. My own fault...I forgot to put the PCV splash guard on the lower intake so it was getting a direct feed of oil right through the vacuum lines. Pulled the lower and put the correct pieces on, put on a new vented catch can with AN fittings going to the valve covers, and got it running again yesterday. I also got the upper intake powdercoated as well.

Come look at it in person, it's not perfect at all. The passenger fender isn't even the same color! I just cut/buffed the paint as good as I could for now. I don't want to stick a real nice paint job on it because I'm sure that cones will just end up scuffing the paint up ;).

Hey Mike,

I just now saw your question. All of the Stiffler's parts worked really well for me, install wise, and stiffening up the uni-body. Compared to the other Mustangs that I've had, this one is much more solid to drive. With the coilovers, SFC, and cage, it's a completely different animal.

Thanks! I've been cleaning up a few things on the notch, redoing the interior, and other odds and ends. It will have a different engine in it at some point. There is a rust hole in the driver's side strut tower that needs to be addressed so when the engine comes out to fix that, something else will be going back in. I've contemplated pulling the engine out of my hatch and swapping it over. Then I could put some nasty engine in the black car to make the track car that I've always wanted!
