Hi Everyone!
I've finally joined the ranks of project car owner! Woo hoo!
Like some of the other folks, I lurked around here while waiting for a project to come along. About a year ago I had decided that the car I wanted to find was either a 64/65 Falcon or a '65 Comet. At the end of July, I purchased a '65 Comet Caliente, 289, 3 speed stick, 100% original found sitting in a barn about 15 miles from my home. It has been sitting since 1991 and was parked there by the original owner. I got some of the car's original paperwork with the car including the original sales receipt showing the original purchase price of $2,400!
Did I mention it is a 4 door?
Something that influenced my decision to buy this car was a video of Dick Eytchison driving his 1965 Chevelle - 4 Door. If you haven't seen the video, check it out as it is pretty cool. I love how Dick's car turned out. With 3 kids and one grandson the idea of have a car capable of carving through the corners and can also take the family down to the ice cream shop or on a cross country trip was very appealing.
Plans for the car include the usual... suspension, brakes, 5 or 6 speed trans, frame connectors, mini-tub, a few inches lower, etc. And being a Michigan car there is some rust repair required also.
Not sure about the final color or wheels yet. I've got a rendering being done with several color & wheel options to sort out what looks good on this car. Due to budget constraints, I may leave the exterior as is for a while. It would make a great sleeper with everything upgraded, but well hidden under nearly 50 year old paint!
Once I get started on the actual build I will start a thread. This project will probably show up on a couple forums that I frequent.
Thanks, Rod
