So I have an independent rear suspension off a 2012 Camaro and I have been bouncing around with the idea of putting in an IRS into my 67.

I know anything can pretty much be fabbed up as long as there's money and time haha.

Ive been looking around and found some stuff but I wanted to see if anyone on here has seen something like this. Links to any threads would be appreciated.

It most likely will end up being more expensive to make this irs work than to buy an pre made irs setup up.

Putting one in my 70 Chevelle... don't have a lot of pics online right now so not much to show you. got a few pictures up on my blog in my signature. be prepared to do a lot of fab work. but overall the cost has not gone out of control. In parts and fab materials Im only into my rear end for about 2K and have most everything to finish it up. (not including the triple adjustable coil overs I bought)

My first question would be how wide is that IRS from wheel mount to wheel mount?

If I remember correctly the rear end is only 64 inches hub to hub, I will double check the next time i go to the shop.

And as far as fitment goes it actually fits between the fender-wells quite nicely. here is a early fitment picture I took right after we pulled the body off the car. the rear end is still a little to low in this picture and needs to come up about 3 inches. the tires on the rear end where off my friends 04 GTO and on the rear end with the body on I still had a good inch of distance between the wheel and the inner fender-well. with no modifications I should be able to run a standard Camaro offset wheel in the car but I will order some custom offset wheels so I can put a 305 wide tire on the car and get it to fit centered in the wheelwell.

I have seen one other Chevelle done with one of these rear ends at SEMA last year, however the way they installed it I was not happy with. They actually narrowed the long side of the rear end to make it equal length and make it fit a little easier between the frame rails and to center the carrier. in my opinion that was a big nono.... they really did just throw a bunch of GM engineering out the window..

Now because of the size of the rear end and the width of the frame rails on the Chevelle we were left with one small issue, to put the shocks in the stock location on the rear end meant we had to put a huge notch in the frame. I opted not to do that. and decided to put the shocks up top and install a cantilever shock setup. I do loose some of the trunk, but who needs truck space in a race car.... :)

here's a few more pictures...

Here is the boxed mounting we came up with for mounting the rear end and cantilever, as you can see it will protrude into the truck area a bit....

Actually, been hard at work on the Cantilever setup. got most of the stuff machined up and working on getting it attached to the frame.

Here's a few recent photos...
