I changed the rotors and pads (factory rotors with cermic pads from Raybestos) on my '71 C10 today, and while I was bleeding the brakes, I noticed that my truck has a drum-drum master cylinder. I know this because the reservoirs are the same same. I do not want to go back to the factory style because they rust so quickly and look terrible. I love the look of Wilwood's master cylinders but I don't want to spend $200 if there is not a performance benefit as well. I guess my question is: Is there a performance benefit of a Wilwood unit on a mostly stock brake System?

Wilwood master cylinders come in a couple different bore sizes. The larger the bore the more pedal pressure required. The smaller bore offers less pedal pressure but requires more pedal travel. So other than that I don't think you'll see a performance gain over stock.

The gain in Wilwood is that is NOT cast iron but Aluminum instead so it won't rust... Brake fluid attracts moisture by nature, having aluminum bowls in the master will help keep the fluid cleaner (you are supposed to flush it once a year anyways) and you will know for sure its right.

In 71 your truck had factory Disc up front, even though the bowls are the same size, that doesn't mean its a Drum/Drum unit, the Vette master has the same size bowls as well.

You can just go to you local auto parts store and get a master for your year truck.... Just get a NEW one, not a rebuilt as they are known for being JUNK and over half are bad!! That's where the Wilwood master shines, quality.... If you want a Wilwood, let me know, I will get you one.

Use a C5 Corvette master cylinder. Its aluminum with a clear reservoir so you can see the fluid. Even has an electrical plug where you can get a low level light set up and wire it into your dash brake light
