Hi,
I am trying to work out what gearbox is used in the Chevelle Dwayne Johnson drives in faster?
http://media.aintitcool.com/media/legacy/images2009/fastercar2.jpg
That to me looks like an Automatic stick. But in the movie, I see him shifting the gear and in some Faster Reviews they talk about this "Maggie Grace had never driven a car with manual transmission and gear stick"
So I can not work out is this:
1: A Manual car (hence he shifted it in the movie) but the Shifter looks like an automatic
2: Is it an Automatic that he himself 'chose' to shift, (so it has 1-2 and D which automatically selects gears for you
3: Is it one of those automatic gearboxes which are designed that they must be shifted manually, hence no D option, it will just be 1-2-3 and the driver must select himself.
Any thoughts?

Looks like an Auto to me - maybe they had multiple cars for the filming (?)

Could be an auto with a manual valve body

They are just pretending to shift for the shot. Remember its a movie. The shifter shown is an automatic. Did you notice the car had a 70 front and a 71/72 rear?

Yeah I did.
Well looking at this part:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEd8EPioP4s
At the start, when it shows the feet pressing the accelerator, there is only a brake pedal. So that tells me Automatic. But then you notice Dwayne 'stick it in gear' by pushing it up? Isn't the 1 usually at the bottom with the D at the top (aka up)?
Then at 1:13-1:14 on the clip you see Dwayne pushing the stick 'up' again...
So he went up to start, and then Up again...
Is the shifter reverse where 1 is at the top and Park is at the bottom, or is this just a movie stuff up?
Manual Valve body or just a movie thing, in reality, he wouldn't of been 'shifting' it?
What kind of shifter is that? Some sort of B&M? I like it.
My car is an Automatic TH400... to have the manual valve body, is a new gearbox required, or is that just in the design of the actual shifter, thus not an expensive thing to do?
Would the Faster Box have been a TH400 as well? Is the TH400 a good-auto box, or was that one of the worse ones offered for the Chevelle?

It's a movie, don't expect it to make any sense. Just like how the roof is flattened after the crash, then it's not...
You can add a manual or reverse manual valvebody to your existing trans, but swapping the appropriate valve body. Don't even have to remove the transmission.
TH400 is a great trans, but also consumes the most power during operation.

Ummm, isn't that a ratchet shifter?? Basically you have the normal P R N then can push it forward or back and it will go just like if you manually shifted it from 3, 2 and 1

Would you say it was set up with a reverse manual valve body or standard:
P
R
N
3
2
1
?
What about Vin Diesels Charger from fast 1. It ran a 727. Again, Reverse valve body or standard?
