Thoughts on the following combo for a 71 Firebird:

Hopefully I can find it a bit cheaper.

I know I'd need a fuel supply and some kind of accessory drive along with mounts. Not sure about the oil pan that comes with this. I already have a Becool radiator and Spal fan setup so hopefully that will work.

If someone has other suggestions for a complete set up, I'd like to hear them.

We can supply you an oil pan, accessory drive, fuel system, etc.
The LS3 crate engines come with 2010+ Camaro LS3 oil pans, which basically don't fit into any muscle car so you'll need an LS1 F-body pan or Holley pan.

For belt drives, we offer Billet Specialties, March Performance, Wegner Automotive (recommended), and ConceptOne. All are $2000-$3000 depending on the finish you want, including power steering, alternator, a/c compressor.

While I appreciate the info on the sale, I'd be hit with the 7% sales tax. I've looked at some of the Texas Speed stuff and Turn Key packages, but they'd all be $2000 more by the time the trans is added.

Basically looking for the best bang for the buck complete package...engine & trans (accessory drive, harness, pedal, etc.) I'd like to be at $10k total, but that doesn't seem possible with an Ls3.

Buy this,

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2006-GTO-LS2-6-0L-Engine-Drivetrain-w-4L60E-Automatic-Transmission-400HP-/291203725478?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item43cd1838a6&vxp=mtr

You get more stuff than you need and you don't have to do a DOD/AFM delete and the tranny will fit. 400HP stock so after you turn off and get rid of the smog stuff and add headers you will have the HP of a LS3???? Just figure in another $3K to buy a install kit and harness/ECU work and you should still be under $10K?

Does the LS3 have DOD/AFM? I thought those were only on the L99 but I am not positive. I also think the 4L65E should fit.

I know the LS3 in my G8 GXP doesn't have DOD/AFM but I'm not sure if the new Camaros and Vettes had it or not? I know he was looking at a G8 GT LS2 and they do have AFM and it costs about $1500 to delete it.

I was but either motor would need an accesory drive to fit into a second gen. I passed on the G8 motor and trans because the trans doesn't fit and the extra cost to delete the DOD. It just seems like buying used wouldn't save me very much. I wouldn't have to chase down as many parts either. If there are better deals for the money I'd have in the above combo, I'd like to hear about them.

Ah yes didn't realize that one.

Junkyard engines are the cheapest way to go of course but lots of risks.
We use USShift Trans controllers which are cheaper than the GM ones.. You can sometimes get a locally rebuilt 4L60e for a little less, and for wiring harness and computer, PSI might be the most competitive.
