Has anyone watched the new TV series "Optima's search for the Ultimate Street Car" on Friday nights on MAV TV?
Opinions?

I have. Set the DVR to record the series. So far I like the new format. Only wish MAV TV is available in HD.

Considering the only one I've seen is the intro episode it wasn't bad. As everyone has stated I like the new format looking fwd to seeing the rest.

For those of us that don't have access to MAVTV and can't get it in our areas is there way to get a link to the show to view on the internet?

I'm only seen the Laguna Seca episode, not sure if it was the first one? I personally think they are not showing enough car action. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad MavTV picked up the series, but I miss the action coverage from Speed.

I just watch the Laguna second episode. Like the format but more road course footage would improve the show as stated above.

More car and car action would be nice. Not many people may like watching a honda do a dyno pull. But that was the first episode.

Thanks for clearing that up. I wasn't sure if I missed anything since my DVR was set for the old episodes...

Laguna was the second show. The first show was an intro to the upcoming shows so don't fret much you didn't miss anything as far as action or cars.

I have watched a couple of episodes now, if it continues as it is, I won't bother watching in the future. People generally watch these types of shows to see cars in action and that certainly isn't what has been shown at this point.

What I see is an infomercial when I watch. This stuff doesnt need to be SOLD to the public. The DSE commercials had more action than the show did.
I watched both the intro and the Laguna competition and was dissappointed. Sorry, to be honest but in the spirit of being constructive, there is way....way too much talking. I watched it with several of my non-enthusiast relatives and it got to a point where they could predict the next cliche` line about "its not just about the car" before it was dropped. As it sits now, I have seen a ton of film on some guy with a Pinto. Seems like nice enough of a guy and car but I don't know anything about him or what mods make this Pinto so special to absorb as much time as it did. In the end, I have no idea how he finished and then in the last 5 mins of the show, you announce winners but your audience has no idea who they are or what cars they drove as none of them were featured. Sorry if it stings a bit but in my opinion, I am not sure why anyone who either didn't participate in the event or the production of the show would care. There is very little if any connection between the audience, the drivers or the cars.
My suggestion would be to keep it simple: Each episode have a few drivers do a short bio about themselves, how they got started, what drives them to participate then tell us about their car, the car's history with them, what engine, trans, suspension, brakes etc. What they think is the modification they are most proud of. That way, you begin to car about both the driver and the car. Then I want to see how they fare. That way, I care how they do because I know something about them and their car and an audience connection can be established.

This is what I was thinking. A lot of chatter and product placement. I know they have to pay the bills but I'd like to see more action.

This is ALL GREAT feedback!
Personally, I am too close to the action to have a valid opinion. BUT...I can certainly ask the questions and make sure the right people see the answers. I am unoffendable...but certainly willing to offend those who can make a difference :) Thank you all for the comments...
Carry on!
BTW...I think you will see a shift towards the action you are looking for. It may not happen this week, but hang in htere!

I liked it....Agree with some of the folks would like to see more details on the cars and maybe the battles on the track. I think we have to keep in mind that this show (although we would love to have it tailored to us) it is probably more trying to target the Gas monkey/overhaulin type people off the street....The number of people that want to know camber or tire pressure are very few and would lose most of the audience....it is a balance.....But I thought if they can show more of the cars on the track and maybe some people that are "friendly" rivals that would make it more interesting for me. As long as it is not Gas Monkey it is a move in the right direction!!!!
Sorry Gas Monkey fans.....the day someone pays 60k for a 60 impala with a buff job and the inside doors a different color is the day someone needs to be punished......15k car + 45k to say you were on TV does not make a lot of sense to me.....

Well I guess we will get to see just how good a gas monkey car can compete against our pro-touring pros this week in Texas. And just an FYI don't believe everything you see on TV. I have been to their shop and many of those cars are still setting in their parking lot that supposedly got sold.

I thank the shows should end by showing a quick look at every driver list them as pro or nov, their car, their cars specs- engine, trans, suspension(props for you Sponsors Bret) etc... And their times in each event & their final place in the event. I thank this would help the audience see how a nov fairs against you pros and give people watching the show the feeling hey I can do that too.

The Texas show was the best yet. Had the driver/car profiles and the action/competition side of the event. May be me but it seems there is a lot of "show" time and little commercial time.
last nights Texas show was the best show yet, great cars, good profiles some of the camaraderie between drivers! Chads track-side (literally standing next to the cones) commentary was great, awesome job Optima and the many sponsors

I like the format and I think there is a nice mix of profiles and track coverage. I like the fact that the first show didn't just profile PT cars as we need this to reach a wide audience so it will be successful and continue into future seasons.
Anyone watch the Daytona show that aired this past weekend? Give me some opinions...better...worse...same?

Bret I think each week the show gets better. It is feeling less like an advertisement & more about the people. I know you talked about the friendships when they interviewed you. It was neat to see everyone pull together & help the guys that had trouble.

Despite myself not being in the Daytona episode it was best one so far. In fact I watched it twice.
Oh wait, maybe it's the best one yet because I wasn't seen in it. LOL!

Show keep improving weekly. Although my opinion maybe tainted, I thought the Daytona episode was the best yet. The complaints about lack of action shuld be easing. Lots of on track action.
Oh, and did you see the Schwartz Performance, West Bend Dyno Tuning, Wranger #3 Monte Carlo. Wow what a sweet ride. We need to see more of this car and it's owner. lol

I'm wanting to like it, but 45 minutes into tonight's episode, way too much talking and the wilwood informercial, so far is is all about the autox and street stop again! nothing of the road course?
Also, I know I'll probably get flak for this, but I am so tired of seeing over decal'd sponsor cars or sponsored cars, there are less stickers on a nascar cup car than some of these "street" cars.

we all have to run the decals for the event...there issued by optima...did you really think the yellow bug was a sponsored race car?

No, but when the entire quarter panel or hood/nose is plastered with wilwood, ridetech, DSE, or whatever it just takes away from the street car aspect. Most of the contingency sponsor size decals are smaller at least. I could see restricting it to the area behind the front tire to the door and maybe the top of the windshield, keep it tasteful and more street-car. I realize it is a balance between those paying the bills for the series, but a lot of it seems more like the car builder or parts sponsor for the car owner, not the series.

You must really hate my Monte Carlo then. Wrangler has zero skin in the build or coin in my pocket, but Schwartz Performance has been by my side since the concept of doing a chassis for a G body came up in conversation. I proposed to them to do the Wrangler wrap for Daytona to get some tv time. They funded it. I believe that they have gotten their money's worth in the two show its been on so far. This is why I have sponsor stickers on my car. It will create exposure for them and hopefully create more business for them. This in turn comes full circle and helps me in parts and services.
DSE, Ridetech, and Wilwood are USCA sponsors. They deserve a spotlight for their wares. Without them the TV show may not happen.

Just a question about those decals. Are they static cling or otherwise easily removed? I'm also curious what effect if any having an Odyssey battery installed in the car would have on entry.

The required USCA decal package is vinyl and are easily removed. Not having an Optima battery will not effect your entry.

Just finished watching the Road America episode...and I think it will be my last viewing of this show. I'm not really into watching hour long infomercials.
And I know that there were more than 10 cars at that event!! Show the cars guys!! Stop all the interviews and nonsense...blah blah blah...oh hey look a car...blah blah blah. Sorry but I had high hopes for this and it's just a let down.

I have watched the episodes through Fontana @ Auto Club and I think they have improved the show as they progress. Still too little driving action and way to much talking by the staff...outside of participating in Pro Touring events and watching friends from around the country race, not sure I would be interested otherwise to watch this series...it could be better, like horse racing, give everyone a call during the show, get all the cars on camera, not just the sponsored cars would go a long way...

I'll agree with you here. Optima being the big name behind the event has opened it to better venue's, but the television side has suffered. They want to expose the sport to new people, but this format is not going to bring out the masses.
