Billet Hood Hinge Question....

Are the Billet Hood Hinges stronger then the factory ones, or are they purely a cosmetic upgrade.....


The reason I ask, is that a few years BEFORE I had the GTO painted, I had an original hood hinge snap, and as I lowered the hood... it went ****-eyed and I gouged the paint on a fender..... So I replaced the set of hood hinges with repro's , but I have heard mixed reviews on the quality of the rivets on the repros....

So here I sit with the car painted a few years ago.... and I still cringe every time I close the hood, and I do it carefully for this very reason...... waiting for disaster....

So are the Billet ones stronger and less likely to fail ?

Do they allow for more adjustment ? ... I have the usual issue of having to push down the the rear corners of the hood to get it perfectly flat due to the spring tension....

Which vendor do you recommend .... Quality, Fitment, Customer Service ....... ?

I have Fesler ones on my car and helped install Eddie Motorsports ones on a friends car. They are both very high quality and are built stronger that the factory ones. The ones we replaced had loose rivets and you could move the hood side to side when the hood was in the open position. The Fesler and EMS ones are very sturdy and don't allow for any side to side movement. I had some paint chips in the fender areas from the old factory ones, not now with mine or my friend's cars.

Installation was easy and now there is not need to push the hood down after it is closed. We were able to get the gaps good and it stays in place.

I bought these billet hood hinge sets from Classic Industries and I must say they are EXTREMELY HIGH quality and easy to install. Just changing from the springs to a hinge with shocks is 10x better! Hood is easier and smoother to close. I would definitely say they are worth the investment plus they do add a cleaner look to the car.100393100394

I too recently purchased the Fesler hinges for my 2nd gen camaro and they fit perfectly. Very well built!

$200 spread between Eddie Motorsports, Ring Brothers, and Feslers.....

Need to start calling and get a feel for customer service if they dont fit perfectly....

Eddie Hinges here. No issues. Had to replace gas shocks with weaker ones for my fiberglass hood...

I emailed Eddie Motorsports last night.... they are the only one of the 3 that do not use the term Anodized when referring to the colored hinges..... need to find out how they are colored.....

All 3 look like great products....

Update.... Eddie Motorsports is either powder coated or Anodized.... will do either for same price....

Cool deal.... $625 is very reasonable it seems

While we certainly think our Billet Aluminum Hood Hinges for the 1964-67 GTO (PN MS149-36) look killer, they are also designed to be exceptionally rigid using state-of-the-art CAD software. Each piece of high strength billet aluminum is CNC machined with precision, mated to sealed bearings and stainless steel nitrogen gas struts. Adjustability is built into each mounting point to account for imperfections and inconsistencies in the your car's sheet metal alignment. We strive to offer products that can be simply bolted-on with little or no modification to your classic car. To try and achieve this, we have personally installed dozens of sets of hinges ourselves, at our facility, so we know what it takes to put them on a car and adjust them as necessary. That said, even with brand-new sheet-metal it can take quite a bit of work to get the alignment just right. Here is a link to our GTO hinges with a list of finishes and colors. You have let me know how this goes for you. Ill be in the market soon. Maybe this winter. My stock re-pop ones are horrible. I lost a rivet on one, replaced it with another junk one I had laying around and I cringe every time I open my hood at this point.
