For as long as I can remember I have wanted a C10. My boyfriend and I have been looking for a good 6 months for a decent deal on one with no luck. Well about a month ago, we found one less than 15 miles from our house...and it was in amazing shape! Here is the day we bought it:

Someone did a quick restore of the truck, so the paint is a 6 at best, but it's a good base for a driver which is what we want. It's a factory tach and A/C truck (although there is no A/C currently).

The truck is actually in really good condition. There is one rust spot and it's in the fender well, so no big deal there. The underneath isn't pretty and the panhard bar is suuuuper bent, but all and all, it's not really THAT bad.

We have changed exactly 5 things on the truck so far. Amber blinker lenses (I like them better than clear), ignition On/Off plate, steering wheel, of course you have to have a window sticker, and we took the huge rear bumper off as we will be replacing that.

As far as plans for the truck goes, we will pretty much be changing everything about the truck other than the body. We are leaving that alone. We have ordered full front and rear suspension from Roadster Shop that should be here by September 1st. According to those guys, other than the 2 trucks they have built, we will be the first to sport their suspension for these trucks. SUPER excited to see it. We went ahead and upgraded to Penske shocks, Wilwood brakes and Strange 9" and axles.

We are LS swapping the truck, most likely we will go with a 6.2L and it will be a turbo build. We already have a Borg Warner S400SX T6 for it.

As far as wheels go, I initially wanted to go with Forgestar F14f's, but I think I have since decided on Forgeline DE3C's.

Here is a quick photoshop someone did for us on the F14f's...I am really excited!

Wow, you found a nice one there Lydia!
I'm from STL, but an vacationing in New Mexico for the week. I can't believe the 'graveyards' of cool cars down here, all look to be in really good shape (from a rust perspective) except for the surface rust where the sun has cooked the the paint off.
Love the truck!!

Thanks so much guys!

I hope to have some progress pictures of the Roadster Shop stuff this week. Picked up the 6.2L last week, so it's sitting waiting on the chassis stuff to get here. Going to swap the truck intake with an LS3 intake and throw a Brian Tooley cam in it and be done.

I also ordered a rendering from Shawn Mascoll that should be done sometime this week...SUPER excited to see that!

It's been a little while since I have updated this thread, but we have been busy!

Received the Roadster Shop front and rear suspension...it's beyond badass:

In the first night, we pulled the front end off and the stock 350 and TH400 out:

The next day, we pulled the stock K-member out of the truck. MAN, that thing is heavy and huge compared to the Roadster Shop one. I am beyond amazed at how awesome the RS stuff fits:

With the RS K-member in, it was time to put the mock LS engine and 4L80e in and see what we were looking at space-wise:

After we mocked up the front, it was time to start on the rear of the truck. We pulled the bed off and pulled out the stock rearend and trailing arms:

It was now time to start cutting out the frame for the C notch:

Roadster Shop C notch mocked up:

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2014/09/IMG_5695-1.jpg

We thought we may need to modify the tunnel area to fit the big 4L80e, but these pictures show plenty of clearance:

Thanks Bob! Plenty more to come!

One thing I wanted to point out...we mainly work on this truck on Saturdays only. We have spent exactly 4 half-days on this truck and have accomplished this much progress. The Roadster Shop stuff fits so well, there is little you have to do to make it work. Highly recommended.

It's been a little while since I have posted some updates! We are busy getting ready to attend SEMA next week, but I am going to try and update you on our current projects!

We have been working on the body work and a little fabrication along the way. We want to keep the "stock" look of this truck as much as possible, while still incorporating modern touches to make this truck an awesome driver.

Stock tubs removed:

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2014/10/15468092987_135485681d_b-1.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/pyS29p)[/url]

Checking for tire clearance...and it turns out we have PLENTY with only widening the tub by an inch or so:

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2014/10/15033964583_41e4315003_b-1.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/pRi8Wp)

And back to more boring stuff...body work. This is literally the only bit of rust that is on the truck...driver side door:

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2014/10/15033863733_e33a9de346_b-1.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/pyNSHz)

Working on the hood:

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2014/10/15651283461_2e34b3678f_b-1.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/oUutV8)

We are relocating the tank to the rear of the truck, so that left us with deciding what to do with the fuel door. We didn't want it to be in the bed like most others do because I didn't want to have to put the tailgate down every time I wanted to fill up (yes, I am kind of lazy). I wanted to keep the factory gas cap on the cab because I love the way it looks, but obviously it will be cosmetic only. Bob came up with a cool idea that we loved because it will keep the stock look of the truck and won't appear that we have two gas caps:

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2014/10/15467884328_50248740a0_b-1.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/oUrhDs)

It's just the rear sidemarker light when it's closed, but when it's open:

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2014/10/15654018745_994a176d3a_b-1.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/pyQX7Q)

Fuel door! The next piece we needed to take care of was the route of the filler neck. By putting the fuel door here, it basically takes a 90* turn straight down due to the bedside. This would make it a huge PITA to fill up because you would have to pump so slow in order for it to not back up and want to spit fuel back out at you. So we fabbed a pipe that takes the 90* angle out of it which will allow fuel to flow normally:

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2014/10/15658764125_3b6dc30a81_b-1.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/pRhWoV)

We went with Forgeline DE3C wheels, 19s up front and 20s in the back. The finish is titanium centers with brushed outers...I LOVE how they came out. I think they are perfect! A little dirty in this pic:

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2014/10/15654806332_7f99d53181_b-1.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/pRHg2P)

Now that we had the wheels, we needed to work on the front tubs. We wanted to keep the coverage to a minimum because we didn't want to hide the badass suspension pieces. Once again, Bob is working his magic and they are coming out awesome:

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2014/10/15653946915_193673cb09_b-1.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/pRmYw1)
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2014/10/15467315069_96ec9f0fab_b-1.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/pRhz3t)
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2014/10/15467954478_3bbe9248b3_b-1.jpg (https://flic.kr/p/pyN2U2)

For those of you that aren't familiar, there is a ton of empty space along the inner fender of these trucks. He took time to fill in a lot of the space to make it look like the tub is supposed to be there. It's going to look killer!

The bed is just about ready for paint as well as the two doors, but I won't bore you with primer pictures. We did decide on Viper GTS Blue/Arctic White as the colors. Of course, we will be putting our own twist on the color.

We are going to hit it hard once we get back from SEMA, so I should have more frequent updates. Here is a fun one to leave you with for now:

Very cool truck, Lydia. Which size wheels did you go with. You said 19s and 20s, but which width ? Also which size tires ? I see 245s in front, but which size in the rear ? You see many in the US still going with 18s. Over here in Germany 18s are becoming rare as all are going with 19s and 20s. Reason is that most super sports cars are having the larger wheels now. I was in Dallas just 10 days ago. Love Texas !

The wheels are 19x9 in the front and 20x11 in the rear. The rear tires are 315/35/20 Nitto NT05Rs. We can pretty easily fit a wider tire as well...there is just so much room!

Everything was custom ordered from Roadster Shop, including the Strange 9" housing, so I cannot say for sure if it's standard width (for a 9") or if it's been narrowed. They have built a couple C10's with this setup before, so we went with what they used previously. The rear tire is 315/35/20.

Its looking outstanding!!

Thank you so much!

I need to post some more recent updates. We have the frame completely boxed in now and have it (as well as the suspension components) back from powdercoat. It's a rolling chassis again!

The cab and doors are scheduled to be painted this week and then we will set it back on the chassis so we can begin mocking up the turbo kit.

Most of the roadster shop stuff I've seen is C6 based, so probably that bolt pattern.

Wow! It's been a very long time since I updated this thread. I must change that! It's coming up on 2 years for this build and I am getting SUPER antsy for it to be done...and it's almost there!

The color we went with Viper GTS Blue (my favorite) and good old Oxford white.

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2016/04/26214091141_6a511e5757_z-1.jpg

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/pt/2016/04/26007472410_38ad31ceae_k-1.jpg

So, around this time is when we dubbed the name of this truck "Snowball". It just kept "snowballing" into more and more and...well you get the idea. The engine we decided on is a 376ci LSX block with MAST Black Label heads and a Brian Tooley turbo cam. The sheet metal Precision intake is literally a work of art and worth every penny.

We also went ahead and installed a Wilwood master cylinder and Hydraboost system to help with the braking (I almost killed myself a few times with the drum stockers).

Autorad makes an amazing brushed aluminum radiator support that we saw and just couldn't resist. It took about 10 weeks or so for them to make it, but it comes complete like you see here...awesome product.

Now it was time to start on the fun part...the turbo kit. One would think that there is a TON of room in the engine bay of these trucks, especially with a lot of the unnecessary "stuff" gone; however there is just barely room enough for a big Precision billet 88mm turbo and everything that goes with it LOL.

Here we are testing the fitment of the turbo.

Once we decided where we were going to put it, that's when all the fab started. So much work!

Clearly, you can see that there isn't room for a filter on the turbo. We decided to go ahead and cut the core support to accommodate. I was nervous, but it came out awesome!

We did run into some issues with the steering column. We ordered a custom ididit column based on the recommendations from Roadster Shop. After about 6 weeks, the column arrived...and didn't fit. So, back to the drawing board. They don't return custom built columns, so we spoke with Roadster Shop again and re-ordered with different specs. Another 6 weeks and it didn't fit either! At this point, we decided to just engineer a way to make the second one work. This is the steering shaft going through the frame.

Since we relocated the tank to under the bed and put the filler door in the side marker light, we needed to fab some sort of filler neck to work. There isn't much room inside the side marker light to get a fuel cap in and out of there, so we went with a capless neck. I think this is the bee's knees!

Still waiting on a few small parts to arrive, but the truck is VERY close to being done at the mechanic shop. The AC is hooked up, almost everything is in working order. Here are some shots I took just the other day.

Very nice work. What are your plans for the truck? Any auto-x or track days?

As of right now, there aren't any hardcore plans for the truck other than just to drive it and enjoy it! I really want to do Power Tour and I am sure we will do several shows and events with it. We have other cars to drag race, and haven't really been into the twisty stuff, but we will see!
