View Full Version : Anyone running 19's First Gen F-body?
Looking at 18's or 19's and just wanted to hear from people who were running 19's and see what they thought. Driving impressions or any regrets? Mainly 67-68 Firebird or Camaro.

yep they are. but when i bought them in 08, that was the trend. I still get more questions about them when im out in it. poeple think they are cool as heck looking and i did too back then. But there wasnt any autocrossing to speak of back then either and the performance handling theme wasn't really a big topic. But they are expensive wheels and to replace them would be $$$$. this profile looks better but still too big

Mike Dusolds 67 Camaro on 19" wheels. He liked them but he switched to 18 for a better tire selection. Which worked out for me because I was able to use them as rollers while building my 68.

Personally I'd go 18s all they way around. it looks better and wheels are lighter. Tires are cheaper
The only way I'd be ok with 19s is if you running 15" brakes like my buddy and his E92 M3
Wheels are very personal.. Go with whatever makes you happy

what are you doing with the car? that will help dictate wheel size selection

They look more like the Forgeline VX3C-SL to me? Although, they are close either way.

Nope, definitely not Forgeline wheels. We don't drop that much money on wheels haha

Drktrrs, do you happen to know the sizes/offsets that wheels are? Thanks.

Well it will mainly be a cruiser. I don't have any plans to autocross or drag race right now.
I want it to be enjoyable to drive and be able to drive it on road trips if I get the urge without being totally miserable after a few hours in it. I do want to put air ride on it at some point but that will probably have to wait a little while.
I have seen 19's on 1st gens that look really good, especially Lenie's car! But the tire selection and higher price on the tires is something to think about. As far as total tire diameter what should I shoot for? Seems like around 27in is pretty normal.

19x12/ 19x9. Don't know the offset and I'm not sure if Mike would remember. They haven't been used in quite a while.

Would this be because of tire selection or overall look?

I can understand the tire selection concern but they do look really good on your car.

I have 19" Boze wheels on my 73 camaro and luv em. I will be putting 19s on my 68 firebird when its time. They are expensive for both wheels and tires but I think they look awesome. On 19s try to go as wide as you can to get more traction/tire to the ground.
I guess the thing that has me worried the most is the profile on the front tires. I had wondered if I could run a little larger than normal diameter tire on the front to get a little more sidewall. A 245/40/19 is 26.72" tall and it would fill the wheel well a little more without having to lower it as much. But I'm not sure if there would be any clearance issues when turning.
