Hey Guys,
My 66 Chevelle is getting closer to the finish line. I opted for the c5/c6 disc brake set up using kore3 brackets. I choose to go with out the e-brake to save some money for now. Of course this is an automatic, but i was wondering what everyone is doing and hopefully help me decided if i should bite the bullet and opt to get the rear e-brake?
thanks,
scott

I had considered not having the e-brake on mine (was auto now t56). I talked to Tobin at the time and he said it wasn't really cost effective the buy the non E brake stuff and then try to switch it later to an E brake setup. He told me that the kits are different and there was no easy "add" on kit. I would give him a call, his tech service is top notch! Hope this helps.

hmm he told me the exact opposite. I'm going to track back my email thread to make sure.

this was his reply to my email a while back:
Congrats on the new to you ’66 Chevelle. As for the rear parking brake assembly, most of the cost is actually in the components required to adapt the C5/C6 Corvette parking brake components onto a solid axle application. In your case, it also requires those components to accommodate c-clip axle installation and removal. I’ve attached the 10/12-bolt c-clip kit installation instructions for your review so you can better familiarize yourself with our kit.
The non-parking brake kit uses the same base brackets as the DIH parking brake kit, so you can always buy the kit without it and then add it later at no real cost penalty other than paying to ship things twice.

Tobin told me the same. Therefore, I choose to wait and upgrade the parking brake later.

Be sure you know what the requirements are for your state's vehicle registration and inspection. Here in Texas, e-brakes are required and "checked" at each annual inspection. I've never seen them do it myself, but it is on the list of inspection items.

I wanted C5 rears and a parking brake , so I got the KORE3 backing plates and "in hat" park brake assembly. It wasn't cheap, but I didn't like the LS style stuff, and it's getting harder to find, especially in good condition.
I guess it's up to you (and your state) if you want a park brake or not. I think I'll be happier with one.

Glad I found this post, the e-brake stuff is expensive. Even having my own parking brake stuff, a bare kit with nothing is close to $700.
anyone hav actual pictures of the components installed?

From Kore3? Check my build thread. Pretty easy to install. I even used stock corvette rear ebrake cables to work with our stock ebrake.

Is this with a 335 tire?

With the high cost of adding an e-brake option, has anyone used a hydraulic brake lock system? I seen this not long ago and was wondering how reliable they are. They state it's NOT an emergency brake but only a parking brake. No sure if I want my car to be a test "dummy" though :drive1:

Theres a nice electronic brake option now. Theres a few people on here running them. Push a button instead of a pedal

Call me crazy !! But I never use the E brake. I live at 7000' and with daily driver I have never pushed the E brake once , has over 70000 + miles . It has a auto trans but that is not why I never use the E brake . They salt the roads so much that the corrosion builds up on the E brake cables and they lockup the E brakes .
Now my 1971 Elcamino is a M22 4 speed car and is a cruiser only for a few days a year ( I would drive it more but to many bad drivers and makes me nervous ) and I never but the E brake on it as it has a key lock that only locks when the trans is in reverse . Reverse should be you lowest gear possible .
On both autos and manuals the only thing a E brake does is take the load off the trans gears .
If your are on a step hill and your car slides in reverse or park depending on the trans a E brake will not help you .
With that said it's your call .

Even when using a new style electronic brake, you still need the internal parking brake components. It is operated electronically instead of manually. I have been considering the E-Stopp one. There have been a couple of recent post (Either on here or over at Lat-g about them).

Here depending on the state inspection station guy you have to have an E brake and some test it holding the car when in gear.
