Wheel wells and air flow

Hello I have a question I was hoping you could help me with. I am building a 69 camaro and eventually want to do one of the 1 mile races. I built a front air damn with a splitter that is flat and extends to under the radiator core support and I made a adjustable rear spoiler. I noticed that sometimes Big Red doesn't run any wheel wells so I was thinking about taking mine out. I will have more clearance at a lower ride height without them. At what speed would it cause problems?

get air to flow around and/or create ways for air to escape the wheel wells.

open wheel wells may as well be a giant parachute. get air out of the engine bay and out of the wheel wells.
