Hey guys I have a Pontiac 400 engine in my 71 Lemans with a th400 transmission. The transmission is on its way out (slippin and hard shifts). I've been looking around for a trans to swap in. So a few simple questions, is the 'Turbo 400 BOP Trans' the same as a BOP th400? Will a turbo 350/th350 bop trans fit on this motor? Would the driveshaft/crossmember have to be changed? Thanks

BOP means Buick, Oldsmobile, Pontiac and TH is turbo hydromatic so turbo 400 is same as TH400. Make sure when you are shopping that you get one with the same size tail shaft so that you dont have to modify the drive shaft.
My TH400 needed a rebuild. I was quoted $1,100 to rebuild, so I just went shopping on craigslist and found a nice replacement for $250 and bolted it in myself.

Might consider a 2004R overdrive as it has universal bellhousing & is about the same length as 350/400. I would think you could get a rebuilt 2004R for close to the same price as you were quoted on the 400 rebuild. There would be some add'l stuff to buy such as TV kit for the cable (see bowtie overdrives). The crossmember mounting location is different than on the 400 so you may need to modify your existing crossmember location or install an aftermarket one made for the swap. I was able to reuse the stock first gen F-body driveshaft with no modification.
