View Full Version : Any good reasons NOT to get Ride Tech Air Ride for my 69 Mach 1?

I have been wanting the Ride Tech Air Ride level 2 kit for my car for a long time now. I am finally ready to pull the trigger on it this week and my Dad is starting to second guess the idea. I think this is mainly because of the price, he's kinda old school when it comes to classics. This kit is going to run me $6,700 ($6k for level 2 kit, $300 for plug/play upgrade and $400 for Muscle Bar).

He is telling me I could do a quality 4 link for the rear, front uppers/lowers, 4 wheel coil overs, strut rods, sway bars ect for much less than the Ride Tech kit. I think doing all of that will cost almost as much as the Ride Tech kit if I buy quality stuff; maybe $1k less at best

This car is really going to be a street machine/pro -touring, weekend cruiser type car with occasional track use possibly. (strip or course)

I like the idea of air ride for the adjustability and smooth ride. It will be nice to not scrape off my front spoiler pulling into my drive way, being able to adjust the height for different areas on the fly without having to crawl under the car.

.....and of course, the looks.

What is everyones feedback/opinion on this?

If you are not interested in slamming it down at shows and just want the ride quality, then I'd venture away from air ride. Sure, you can get a decent ride out of it and adjust for different bumps and such, but is that worth it to you?
We generally recommend RideTech level 2 single adjustable coilovers for what you plan to do. You can work with RideTech directly to choose a suitable spring rate for what you plan to do, and if it's too stiff or too soft, then it's a simple spring change. It's kind of like comparing carburetors to EFI in my opinion. EFI, once tuned properly, shouldn't give you any issues. Carbs, you may be adjusting them more often than you want, and if the results aren't what you had hoped, then you'll be wishing you went the EFI route.

In either case, we are a RideTech dealer & I can get you a quote for either system if you'd like.

That's my opinion, hopefully others will chime in!!

Thank you for the advice. I do plan to slam it down for shows, plus I have a steep driveway and think the Air Ride will help with that.

Also, if I want to take the car to work, its a 60 mile round trip, with a lot of different roads. I really like the idea of adjustability from inside the car.

The air is a good choice for that car. Bret has been running the Silver Mustang. I have drove this car a lot and it handles great and performs really well on the track. My truck also runs on air best of both worlds on air.

After doing a search on the Forum and reading about Air Ride all day, I pulled the trigger on the level 2 kit. Thanks Dale!
