Will a 295/45/18 tire fit on a 18x8 rim with a soft lip? I want the wide tire look on the back of my car.

It might physically fit, but I don't think I'd do it. I'd think you'd want at least a 9" wide wheel for that tire.

Not safe at all. I've got 295/35/18s on 18x10s and that is the manufacturers minimum recommended rim width. Maybe because of the larger aspect ratio (45) a 9.5" rim might work, but I would stick to 10. With such a wide tire and a small rim, you're going to get lots of tire bulge and won't have the correct contact patch anyways, so the tire will not look as big as it should.
