Searching for some motor mounts for the lq9 swap in my 66. What are your experiences with the various mounts and what should i look out for?

Thanks,

scott

Scott, you may want to add what oil pan you're going to use and whether you plan on using manifolds or headers? It will probable help if someone with a '66 sees your question.

thanks. i ended up going with the dirty dingo adjustable mounts. I will be using headers and I'm not sure about the oil pan just yet. The lq9 was pulled (and rebuilt) from a camaro. but it started out it's life in an escalade. We're going to see if it fits with the existing oil pan, if not... i'll be on the search. I'll report back to this thread with our results when the engine meets the body again.

Don't think you can go wrong with the DD adjustable mounts, I used those for my car.

I put a ls1 in my 66 chevelle. I used street & performance motor mounts and there oil pan and headers. The dd motor mount should work good. I have about
2 1/2 inch away from the fire wall on the passager side. I have the stock frame mounts.

Heres what I used;

1967 El Camino

Dirty Dingo adjustable sliders - set all the way back - DD-SLIDER
Energy Suspension motor mounts - 3.1114G (black...if you want red ones, replace the G with an R)
Canton 15-274 pan (plus pick-up and oil filter mount)

Couple things.

The Dirty Dingo mounts are overkill. You can just get the Energy LS swap mounts and be just fine. I wanted the engine set back a few inches and take advantage of the shift in weight to the center. I'm running a T56 and when you push the engine that far back, you've going to have to make a significant amount of transmission tunnel mods. However, no matter where you set the sliders, the Canton pan is simply awesome. I went with the Canton because its the only pan I was able to find that works on a stroker motor AND fits well in the A body. I've heard the Holley 302-2 pan is good also, but doesn't support a stroker. The El Camino is also a boxed chassis and wasn't as easy as my 67 Chevelle was to mount the transmission cross member. Last picture is with the truck pan. LOL Might not be too fun to drive on the street with it that low.

Ok....pictures.

You need to be careful because if you position the engine too high, it will really mess up your driveline angles. I would use the new Holley pan and find mounts that position the engine as low as possible.

Better yet, if you have some fab skills use the 4th Gen f-body engine mounts and make your own frame stands to work with those mounts. Like this:

The above pictures are from Stelows Camaro XV, but you can do the same for an A-body.

When I saw the mounts I thought wow this is some beautiful fab work. Then I read when the picture is from. lol They are sweet looking.
