View Full Version : Car guy with a bad previous owner syndrome

I posted on here cause I don't think he's on here. Kind of a dilemma. On another forum a guy had bought a car and set out to rebuild it. He pretty much cut the back half of the car apart and started to re-assemble with new parts without any clue as to why things didn't line up right. Suggestions were made by me and others to correct his problems. I think in frustration he didn't want to deal with it anymore and sold it. The buyer in another country has posted pics as they have been taking it apart to fix it right and the pics reveal more poor work he had done. In the mean time, he has bought another of the same car but a year older. He's started posting progress of the new project. He appears to be going down the same road with this one. From pics of his latest work it looks like he's short-cutting his repairs. While I haven't always done things right the first time, I do correct my work. The question is do I or others let this guy continue to do things like the previous owner we all hate or do we try to steer him towards the right way to do things? If so, how to do it without killing his dream? Not really worried about it but he doesn't seem to have a clue. Just hate to see him ruin the 2nd car like the 1st. What do you all think?

Why do you feel responsible to do anything?

Not responsible at all. Just hate to see someone screw up what could be a good car but not concerned enough to step in. I'm perfectly content to sit back and watch the carnage and shake my head in disbelief at my monitor.

It happens all the time, I've watched a few guys cut decent cars up, only to scrap them in the end, once they figure out they had no idea what they were doing...I just bite my tongue, and try not to look...I deal with it enough in my daytime job.

I wouldn't worry - even shops screw up time & time again. Just look at the Ass Monkeys on Fast n Loud!

Whenever anyone starts a project out the advice I always hope they take is that if you don't have money, time or talent to do it right the first time, even if you learn from mistakes, you aren't likely to have the money or time to fix it. Many a trashcan project has started with good intentions, wide eyes, and high hopes only to end up with someone buying a Honda and spending the rest of their life driving miserable.
