Hi, here is a little for the mopar-crazy out there :rolleyes5

About me, I'm 24 y.o from Norway, had the car 6 months.

My 1970 Plymouth Barracuda is changing colours this winter. I bought the car from Seattle in march this year. A voyage around the world waited. After a 2 month swim on the atlantic the Barracuda reached Norwegian shores. The key was turned, the 340 came to life and I drove it 620 miles home. Since I got the car, I've added the roadlamps and a Rallye dash cluster. :drive1:
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Now I've had the car, and had fun with it for the summer, It's time to get busy. Here are some pics of the teardown.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Engine compartment will get the treatment, the only colour that could ever be applied to the 340 is Hemi street orange, so It will be.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Here I am, turning the car around.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
I'm getting the stock rectangular exhaus tips.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
The migthy mopar with some of it's winter storage pals, A Nissan Laurell 3.0 V6 behind it, A 78 Ford Capri with a Cosworth turbo engine, an 71 Opel Manta, and a 78 Opel Kadett.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
The 67 Mustang is a stock 289 a/c car.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Here I am screwing the door of.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
There seems to be little rust, glad I got a west coast car. :)
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
The plans for the winter besides the paint job is new wheels and hopefully som new TTI headers.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
The colour will be Nissan Apple Pearl green, AAR stripes, and an AAR spoler will help the look of the car.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
I want to build the suspention to, but that has to wait. The paint and the wheels takes most of my budget for the winter. The car have already seen some track duty, and the old 318 torson bars is not up for the job.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Can't wait to start assemblying it again with the new paint!
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
The last picture I took yesterday evening, the engine is coming out today, stay tuned

Again, not my car, but a firend's ex. He's just fixed a cowl leak for her, as it an old NY car. So that car won't stay in our garage over winter. My friend's '71 Datsun 240Z will take up that spot.
Well.. I'm off to tear the "litl' hemi" 340 out of the car. :getout:
You'll probably get some pics of that too.

Great car. I like the idea of picking your car up and driving it 600 miles. That must have felt very special. Good luck with the project.

Wow, long time since I've updated! Modmach1, I'll re-reregister on your site.
This is what have happend so far this winter.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
I had a little setback. Someone had done a fast job on the floor. Just some scews and some cold welds held the floorpans together, consealed under some black rubber material. Don't know what kind of injury have happend here, but it seem straigth on the underside. Hated the extra work, becouse a previous owner didn't care or tried to save some pennys, instead of doing it right the first time!* >:(
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
You have to count on one thing, you'll have setbacks when looking under the skinn on a 36 year old car.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
The dash is out. It's the original one and is cracked. New replacement in the future.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Car is on jackstands, got the exhaust down. the floor was next when I got it to the bodyshop.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Where some of my parts are!* 8)
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
My friend Jan Erik works at the bodyshop, he's gonna paint the Barracuda. He has a real beautiful 71 Datsun 240Z Fairlady. He's one of the guys I share the garage with.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Here is one door, primed and ready, rust was a problem, had to cut out and weld in some parts.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Here is my twinbrother, he's dealing with some surface rust.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Colour! Nissan Apple Pearl green on my rear wallance. :)
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
A mirror, painted, 12 oct. I'm so happy and excited!
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
The inside of the doors get a green overspray too.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
This was an unusal warm day for beeing so late in Norway. So the car was pulled out to get the enginecompartment steemwashed.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Some origial colour showed up, Burnt orange metalic!
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Here's my brother again, he's doin' the work, I'm photographing.* :P
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Rust was becoming an issue, more false work and cheat repairs was found. Here a metal plate had been screwed in and hidden under the bondo. The people who did this are skilled with the stuff, looked great until the bodyshop started to work on the quarters. I'll need replacement metal on both sides.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Look! It's apparent that I have payed to much for this car, I called the guy who had helped me get this car, he totaly agreed, he and the PO are going to contact the guy that did this. Eventualy I got some of my money back, but not from the guy that did this. The guy that helped me get the car gave me some money from his own pocket to help me with the costs of the repairs. It's a good thing that some people actually can be trusted, and are willing to help.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Rust around the windshield has been welded.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
The enginebay was primed..
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
And then the green..
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Nice effect of the Nissan Apple Pearl Green.
Also the bendt frame (right fender) was straightned and the floor was welded together again, that also a fast repair from a PO.
Now I'll be waiting for my quarters to arive around February, until then I'll get my engine painted and start installing things in the engine bay.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Fenders have been painted, I'm happy with the result.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Trunk lid, with holes for my AAR spoiler..
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
It's all mine! Trunk lid, the doors, and the fenders where painted.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Towed the car from the bodyshop back to my garage, King Winter had arrived in Norway at this moment, Early december I think it was.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
I put the fenders on the wall to get them out of the way until I mount them on the Barracuda.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Also I have started with the engine, noting serious, it just need a layer of Street Hemi Orange paint.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
I took off the heads and intake, cam seems to be in good contidion.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
The pistons.. Looks like it burnes a little oil.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Orginal 8.5 comp 1972 340 Pistons
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
I put the pentastar on the fender.. looks sick.. maybe I should take it off again and put it back on, as the last thing I do to complete the rebuild?

After these pictures was taken I have disassembled the whole front suspention, I'll put on poly brushings, bought stiffer Hemi torsion bars and new shocks. The engine is shortly going in for paint, and then I'll trye to make the car driveable until the quarters arrive.

Save the fish!
Joakim

Your bro should be wearing some type of a resperator while doing that surface rust removal. VERY bad to breath particles in. Just like media blasting. Causes cancer.

But that Green looks effin killer! Your car is seeing some awesome progress! Comin along nicely dude.

Yeah, that looks bad, but we had the garageport open, and that caused a drag so most of the dust went out.. Anyway, that is months ago, and we both live. :) Thanks for commenting the car!

Very beautiful car. Love the color. Had the same problem with my 68 Camaro. Bought it unseen. Next thing I know floorpans are being replaced due to rust. Unlike you though I did not recover any money. One thing I saw in your pictures besides the brother not wearing a respirator is the way you pulled the engine. It looks like rope to me. Are you sure thats the way you want to put it back in? I'd hate to see a rope snap after cleaning, painting, and rebuilding that engine. Chris

When the engine is going in, it's from the underside. K-member, engine with headers, and trans all on a dolly and lower the car over it. Then bolt on the four bolts for the K-member and the whole thing is in, no scratches!

Paint code is Nissan JT0. I think. It's called Nissan Apple Pearl Green and was only available from 2002-2004. I think. :Alchy: Do not remember the details. I was told it was only available on the 350Z, don't know if that is true. Thanks guys for the kind words! :twothumbs

You guys are hard workers, a long way in a short time. Anyone who thinks restoration is fun should think about the pic of your brother in the car with the wire wheel.

You did do a lot of work in a short time...I guess theres not much else to do there in the winter. The hidden rust repairs were pretty bad. It always PMO when I hear real stories about deceipt on car deals. With the current craze in the US there is probably a lot of that going on here.

Hi, time to share some more pictures!

https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
First pic is from the engine buildup. New gaskets and a good cleanup.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Haven't done so much to the heads, changed oil seals.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
The engine was put aside as I decided to paint the framerails.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
It ended up with me painting the rails, then realising the framerails had cracks in them that I needed to repair. Alot of sand!
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
The bracket for the brakehose was loose to. Looks like a mice have lived in the framerail!
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
A buddy of mine is welding in new metal.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Progress...
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
The other side where the brake hose bracket should be, completed.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
We're getting ready to paint again.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Voilà! Looks real nice. And we had worked all night! ca 04.30 in the morning!
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Here I am, I'm installing new poly brushings.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Here the engine is primed.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
The 340 gets the orange coat.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
Looks nice, a friends 260 Mustang engine in the back.
https://static1.pt-content.com/images/noimg.gif
I could not find any recipes to mix the original Hemi Orange, but we looked at some pics and I think he nailed the colour pretty good!

That's It for now!
