Is there a spray paint (aerosel) that will hold up well to paint a subframe

Most cans of spraypaint are not catilized (no hardener) and drys only by evaporation makeing them thin and also will not hold up well to things like fuel and other chemicals. even some catilized paints have a hard time holding up to some chemicals that are found in the engine bay. If I had to recommend something to use on a subframe that didn't require any fancy equipment to apply, i would say to check out POR-15. It's tough, easy to use and no too expensive.

ima also get a quote on powdercoating see the cost difference

It will cost 10x as much as a few rattle cans of paint, but will last 100x longer and look better.

Blast and powdercoat, well worth $250-350 it might cost you. My camaro sub was $300 if I remember correctly. Much better than spending hours preparing, only to put $50 worth of rattle can on it.

What's the goal and what's the budget? Are you doing a top end show car or going to be doing something with that car that needs 350 bucks in powder coating?

IMO if you have a spray gun it's hard to beat SPI epoxy but if you have to stay with rattle cans blitz black or JD semi gloss black for sure. Either could be done for less than 40 bucks and hold up well for many years.

I rattle canned my frame with semigloss Rustoleum from Walmart. I had the frame sand blasted and coated it with Por15 base coat. There's a specific window to apply top coat and I rattle canned it according to directions. It's been about 2 years since painting and roughly about 10,000 miles of daily driving since getting the car back on the road. I gotta say it has really surprised me how well it's held up. That may be because the rattle paint was able to bite into and bond with the POR15. I would point out that the sheen has faded a bit from a semi gloss to more of a satin sheen on the front frame rails. This may be due to heat, chemical spills, washing the engine compartment, and sunlight and elements as I have no inner fenderwells on the car. It has faded less than the outside of the body of the car that I also rattle canned for a fun experiment. Getting the suspension dialed in takes precedence over body work and real paint, right? ;) For a cheap cheap $65-$70 for everything frame coating for a street driver it works. Give it 10 years we'll see how well it's held up.

If I had the coin to powder coat it at the time I probably would've done that instead. I don't think the powdercoat would lose it's sheen and will likely look much better after 10 years.
