Hey guys,
I need some tires for my bonspeed wheels (66 chevelle). The rears are 18x10 and fronts are 18x8
brad from bonspeed recommended:
F: 245/40/18
R: 285 or 295/35/18
I found the potenza's in both those sizes and the price seems great $710 for the set. This will be a primarily road driven car and would like to err on the side of safety(handling) but comfort and quiet would be nice too.
Does anyone have any experience with these? Are they a good tire for my purposes? Are there any other options that you'd recommend instead?
if it matters: have c5 brakes and will be putting sc&c stage II plus

Considering a set for my 09 G8 GXP. Curious as we'll.

I'd never buy Bridgestone. Their tire doesn't offer anywhere near the dry and wet performance than that of the Michelin Pilot Sport Super Sport. It's hands down the best summer tire available right now. I have 18x8 and 20x10 wheels and I run a 245/35/18 ($213 each) and a 295/25/20. For your 18x10s they offer a 285/35/18 ($280 each). Yes they're priced higher than the potenzas however its like comparing a Zo6 to a G37 type S.

The michelin's were first on my list, but the cost was significantly more then the continentals. Seeing how the car is starting bleed me dry :) I went with a bit cheaper tire for now. I live in SoCal so i'm not as concerned with wet performance as it rains about 7 times a year lately. The tires have been mounted and are in my garage right now. I'll try to report back when i get some miles on them.

Scott- You're 100% right on the cost. I buy my tires used. I learned this secret back when I had my C6 Z06. I didn't factor in the cost of the 325/30/19's when I purchased the car. At nearly $1000 a pair I looked into the used tire market. Nor Cal and So Cal and Miami have the best offerings. Folks out here will replace ALL FOUR TIRES if they encounter some sort of road hazard. This leaves three perfectly good tires behind. The dealers tend to sell on the side. It's a common practice and the service managers fully approve it since most of the customers have no desire to hang on to them post replacement. And since the Porsche, BMW, Benz, Audi cars all tend to have the sizes that coincide with the resto Mod scene this works out nicely. There's always pairs of high end tires with 75-100% tread life remaining. No punctures no damage. I got the pair of 245/35/18's with 9.32nds tread depth (90%) for $90. The 295/25/20's had 10/32nds and where $200 for the pair. Both pairs were stamped with a 2013 date code. I'd highly recommend doing periodic OC and LA craigslist searches with your tires size and the title specific search tab checked.

Nothing wrong with the 760s, may use them on one of my cars. Bad thing is oddball size I am gonna run on the front of my Monza, not many choices. I love Bridgestone/Firestone tires after working/selling them for over 3 1/2 yrs. My DD has Winterforce snow tires right now on front, over yr of use and still have tread, probably wont use then on front this coming winter, but swap them to rear and get 2 more.
As for Michelin, I am not impressed in car tires, gonna try another motorcycle tire in couple of weeks on my Buell Blast,,it eats tires fast. My brother has a Lincoln LS, swapped out Michelin Pilots with Turanza's and he heard sand and rocks hitting car as tires were much stickier,,and he got better handling and mileage out of them and up until he got 3 in of snow was gonna run them year round. But due to his drive he ended up calling me too get him deal on Blizzaks, and we havent looked back.
