I would recommend Frontpage 2003 if you use a PC (vs an Apple).
Godaddy.com is the cheapest place on the internet to get a domain.
They also offer a hosting package for about $50/year with 500mb of space.
I also use photobucket.com for 1gig of picture storage for $25/year.

It will take a little help from someone to get Frontpage connected the first time...from there, it's point click, and drag and drop.

For graphics creation, you will need a good editor like Jasc Paint Shop Pro. It will do most of what Photoshop does, is easier to learn, and costs about $50 at CompUSA on sale.

Keep in mind when buying Microsoft software that you should be able to purchase any of their software at student prices, if you have a student in the house, and the student will be using it at least part of the time for projects, etc. The version is no different than any other.
Also, cnet.com is a great place for getting info on reviews, etc.

You can also google website templates and it will bring up alot of easy drag and drop stuff. The cheesier ones are free the better ones are 50 buck or so. Just a thought.

I use Geocities from Yahoo. It has worked quite well for me. The "pagebuilder" software they give you is very easy point and click.

I'm currently using the free version (limited bandwidth), but for just a few bucks a month you can get a page that won't get shut down every so often.

DO NOT buy frontpage or dreamweaver!!!!

These are both EXPERIENCE programs not recommended for the basic user.

Geocities has the BEST user interface for beginners

I can help with any questions

I disagree entirely regarding Frontpage. Dreamweaver isnt simple, but FP is by far easier....one click publishing, familiar Windows commands...And with 2003, "frontpage extensions" are no longer required.
PLUS, if you want to implement an e-commerce function in your site, there are several plugins available that integrate seamlessly with FP.
If you can use Word and Powerpoint farely well, Frontpage will be a snap.
For businesses, a website says a lot about the company.
As far as a business site goes....do it right or dont do it at all. For personal sites, use whatever is easiest.

Ditto the above...

I use Microsoft software, including FrontPage, to build my site. I use Photoshop for the graphics design. I do use a separate ftp client (Filezilla) to publish it because it gives better control over the process. I have FrontPage 2000 though, not sure if they improved this in 2003. It not, you can download an ftp client free.

We also have all our domains registered through Go Daddy, and my ToddsHotRods.com site is also hosted with them. I am very satisfied, and have no complaints with them in three or four years.

I would be happy to share what limited knowledge I have, of you need it.
