Guys sorry but I am a novice regarding engine builds however lucky for me I have a brother that is pretty darn good at it. I would like to get some advice on getting more horsepower out of my motor COST effectively..... his choice for my money is a whipple at 7000 dollars... I can't do that but I would think we could come up with some other options other than a whipple so that is why I am looking to you guys. The million dollars question is what can we add that will get us around 500 to 525 HP but still keep the engine very user friendly and cost friendly????? The Motor is 6.0 out of 2006 Chevy truck. any advice would be greatly appreciated and probably save me a fortune.....

Hi Brett,
The most basic LS power adders are heads and cam. Your heads are probably pretty good so I would suggest a cam, valve springs, and rod bolts (for reliability). You will be able to get it tuned and easily reach 500hp.
I would recommend something around a 230-235* duration at .050, and a LSA of 114 or so. That'd get you good street manners and decent power.
You can look up cams on Comp Cams site or search some LS2 cam swaps and dyno info online.

Thanks the heads are aluminum and the block is steel... So you think the heads are ok or should have something done to them as well. Also really that much more power from increasing the cam!! any other things we can do that will push it a little more on the horsepower curve?

It depends on which "6.0L" engine you have??
multiple options!!
What is the three digit cast number on the corner of the cyl heads? (ie 317, 821, 823, etc)
if it is out of a 06' then you have the stronger bottom end, compared to earlier versions, yours is compared to the "LQ9"
you have a coated skirt piston with floating wrist pins (compared to press fit) and heavier duty connecting rods
As mentioned before, if you can swing it and are pulling the engine apart, add quality rod bolts and have the rods resized for them
The cam selection is going to be dependent on alot of factors:
- actual type heads that you have (ie. cathedral or rectangle port)
- your compression ratio
- piston type ( flat top or dish w/valve reliefs)
- driveability and performance goals
- driving style and usage
- type of trans you are running (if auto, are you going to put a stall convertor in it)
- rear axle gear ratio
- intake and size TB you are going with
- weight of car
-etc
-etc
we can you some more info to properly help you out
Thanks, Jeff

So sorry I did not provide that information before fellas.. I really appreciate what you are all offering so anything that I need to get let me know and I will get on it.. we are putting it in a 69 c10 truck and the goal is to set it up muck like a pro touring car. I want to be able to compete in a good guys event and at least put up a decent fight and still have a very user friendly driver. Truck is going to have A/C on it as well so I know it will pull a little HP away as well. The other goal is to at least put a decent fight up against my neighbors ferrari. maybe I am reaching but I figured you guys would be the best place to start before whipple ans NOS that my brother wants.
2006 LQ4 6.0
4L80E Transmission
heads are 317
PisSons are factory and not sure if they are dish
ls2 intake (but willing to do something else other than a whipple)
yes on the convertor
gear selection I am open with but again it has to be user driver friendly..

We have a great set of heads that will work really well with that setup.... Our Cathedral 245 Black Label (http://www.mastmotorsports.com/view.php?id=349&c=16&s=4)heads are cast and machined in the US. You would be able to keep the LS2 intake as well, making them a direct swap!
We are working on our 1968 C10 now, going with a Pro Touring style, look forward to seeing yours when its done. Give me a call if you have any questions.
Thanks Chris
