Hi all,

I'm going to go without a spare tire for the time being and see how it works out. I wanted to get some suggestions on a 12 volt air compressor. I've used the cheap-o models that overheat and burn up. Those are a notch above nothing. I want something reliable.

The Slime "Power Spair" kit (http://www.amazon.com/Slime-70004-Power-Spair-Repair/dp/B000YMP1SA/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top) has caught my interest, seems like everything I would need in one bag.

Viair comes highly rated, especially the higher-end models. The Viair 88p (http://www.amazon.com/Viair-00088-88P-Portable-Compressor/dp/B005ASY23I) in the same price level as the Slime but without the plug kit.

Slime also has a double pump compressor (http://www.amazon.com/Slime-40026-Heavy-Direct-Inflator/dp/B005Z8HAUK/ref=sr_1_1?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1401550782&sr=1-1&keywords=slime+2x+twin+cylinder+heavy+duty+tire+in flator), looks like a beast...?

Thanks in advance, Landon

I bought a Viair 300p a couple of years ago. Seems like a nice unit and it has the storage bag and everything. I wish the cord was longer but with it is useable. http://www.amazon.com/Viair-30033-VIAIR-Portable-Compressor/dp/B000X90YUO/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1401553739&sr=8-1&keywords=viair+300p

VW touran and other VW have compressor and a bottle with special foam to be incected if flat tire. I have NEVER heard of anyone that have been able to get the car back on the road again with this. I tried once, never again.... The problem is when you have a flat tire, oftenit is off the mountin face/ grove and not sealing. The compresssor is not big enough to blow it back on the rim. I have tried.... With the car on a jack also....
Use your money on road help/ membership. Here in norway this is covered by car Insurance , $70 fee.

I picked this one up on Amazon earlier this year. Seems to be well built, but I haven't used it yet. I just put in the back of my Jeep Grand Cherokee.

I also picked up a cheap plug kit as well. I don't carry a spare as I put larger tires on. Oh, and I have a AAA basic membership which I've already gotten two tows this year with the wife's car.

I understand a 12 volt compressor isn't going help with a catastrophic tire failure. I do have a towing policy through my insurance. But, I have had situations where a nail caused a slow leak and the tire goes flat in the parking lot. I don't want to have to get a tow truck involved, when a quick pump up get me back home.

I found this comparison (http://www.parksoffroad.com/prodreview/inflatortest/inflatormain.htm) in a off road forum. Seems like the mv-50 is a nice bang for the buck.

For folks driving to PT events and want to adjust air pressure these are a great tool to have on hand along with a good torque wrench and air pressure gauge.

I like this gauge from the Tire Rack. I had it here at our shop for 4yrs. and is still very accurate. I just tossed a smaller name brand one that was reading +5psi.
